Description

    CROSS REFERENCE OF RELATED APPLICATION
  • This is a Continuation-In-Parts application that claims the benefit of priority under 35 U.S.C. §119 to a non-provisional application, application Ser. No. 12/998,807, filed Jun. 2, 2011.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
  • 1. Field of Invention
  • The present invention relates to a brush, and more particularly to a brush head and its producing device. The brush head is a rotational brush head which is capable of rotational movement such that continuous and rotational action can be achieved. The construction of the rotational brush head includes a plurality of modular brush units which involve particular manufacture process such that the density of brush can be increased dramatically while the thickness of brush can be decreased.
  • 2. Description of Related Arts
  • Conventionally, people use a wide variety of brushes for different purposes. For example, people may use toothbrush, broom, or make-up brush for their specific purposes. A conventional bush usually comprises a base, and a plurality of brushing members, wherein the base usually has a plurality of attachment holes for securely accommodating the brushing members. The disadvantage of this type of conventional brush is that when the brush has been used for an extended period of time, the brushing members lose their strength and detach from the attachment holes (i.e. detached from the base). Moreover, since the brushing members are usually pressed into the corresponding attachment holes, when this procedure is not carried out properly, the brushing members will be damaged by the pressing machine and this problem severely shorten the general lifespan of the relevant brushes.
  • Toothbrush, important for health problems such as periodontal diseases or serious acute or chronic diseases. Conventional manufacturing techniques involves steps of inlaying bristles into a plate connecting handle and stabling them with metal chips into holes provided on the plate. Positioning of bristles and connecting through metal chips has impose great limitation in relation to the bristle density, bristle size and bristle length. Since bristles size and density are two important factors affecting cleaning and brushing effectiveness, there is a need to overcome the limitation imposed by the conventional manufacturing method.
  • Toothpaste is commonly used to assist tooth cleaning. However, while toothpaste is great in providing some additional substances beneficiary to tooth cleaning, toothpaste also increases the number of substances that have to be removed from our oral cavity which in turn actually complicate the cleaning process. In other word, the substances provided by the toothpaste is also needed to be removed by brushing, otherwise bacteria may grow with the substances accumulated in our oral cavity.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • One skilled in the art will understand that the embodiment of the present invention as shown in the drawings and described below is exemplary only and not intended to be limiting. The preferred embodiment of the present invention is described in details below.
  • Referring to FIG. 1 to FIG. 2 of the drawings, a brush according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention is illustrated, in which the brush comprises a brush head 1 comprising a brush support 11, and a plurality of brushing members 12 integrally provided on the brush support 11.
  • More specifically, the brush support 11 and the brushing members 12 are made of the same material so that the brushing members 12 and the brush support 11 can be heated to integrally fuse with each other so as to produce an integral body of the brush support 11 and the brushing members 12.
  • The brush further comprises an elongated base member 2 supporting the brush head 1 and is extended from the brush support 11, wherein the base member 2 has a plurality of engagement slots 21 formed at a top front portion thereof, while the brush support 11 further has a plurality of engagement members 13 downwardly extended from a bottom side thereof, wherein each of the engagement members 13 is aligned with a corresponding engagement slot 21 formed on the base member 2. Thus, the engagement members 13 are arranged to insert into the engagement slots 21 respectively so as to securely and detachably attach the brush support 11 onto the base member 2. As shown in FIG. 2 of the drawings, the engagement slots 21 are spacedly formed on the base member 2, while the engagement members 13 are spacedly formed on the brush support 11 and are aligned with the engagement slots 21 respectively. As such, when the brush head 1 has been used for an extended period of time and becomes old, a user may be able replace the old brush head 1 with a new one, while the base member 2 can be continuously used. Thus, the user does not need to replace the entire brush and this feature makes the present invention environmentally friendly.
  • It is worth mentioning that a diameter of each of the brushing members 12 can be varied and adjusted according to the actual circumstances in which the present invention is utilized. For example, for a toothbrush as shown in FIG. 1, the diameter of those brushing members 12 which are distributed along a peripheral edge of the brush support 11 is larger than that of those which are distributed on the mid portion of the brush support 11 so as to prevent the brushing members 12 having the smaller diameter to bend outwardly.
  • Moreover, it is important to stress that the integral connection between the brush support 11 and the brushing members 12 can be any connection and any variation is within the scope of protection of the present invention.
  • As compared with conventional arts, the present invention provides a brush wherein the brush support 11 and the brushing members 12 are integrally formed so as to avoid uneven connection between these two elements. As such, the brushing members 12 are substantially prevented from detaching from the brush support 11 irrespective of the diameter of the brushing members 12. With all these features, the general product life span of the present invention can be substantially prolonged.
  • Referring to FIG. 3 to FIG. 6 of the drawings, the above-mentioned structure of a brush can be applied to a broom 101, a makeup brush 102, a painting brush 103, a cleaning brush 104, or other brushing devices. All these brushes have brushing members 12 which are made of soluble fiber material and are integrally connected to the brush support. All these variations are within the scope of the present invention.
  • Referring to FIG. 7 to FIG. 8 of the drawings, the present invention also provides a device for manufacturing the brush as mentioned above. The brush producing device according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a securing device 3 for holding the brushing members 12 in a predetermined pattern, and has a molding cavity 4 for integrally connecting the brushing members 12 and the brush support 11, wherein the securing device 3 is positioned above the molding cavity 4. In this brushing producing device, the securing device 3 is arranged to hold the brushing members 12 stably which are then integrally connected to the brush support 11 in the molding cavity 4. As such, the brush support 11 and the brushing members 12 are integrally formed so as to avoid uneven connection between these two elements. The brushing members 12 are substantially prevented from detaching from the brush support 11, and the general product life span of the present invention can be substantially prolonged.
  • More specifically, the brushing producing device further comprises a molding frame 41, and a heating device. The molding cavity 4 has a shape substantially the same as that of the brush support 11, wherein the raw brushing elements 5 are transported to the molding cavity 4 by the securing device 3 and heated by the heating device to integrally connect with the brush support 11 for forming the brushing members 12. It is worth mentioning that the shape of the molding cavity 4 can be predetermined according to the manufacturing or marketing needs of the brush. For example, when the manufacturing is making a broom, the shape of the molding cavity 4 should be correspondingly adjusted.
  • The securing device 3 comprises a securing member 31, a holding device 32 for holding the raw brushing elements 5, and a cutter device 33 provided between the securing member 31 and the holding device 32 for cutting the raw brushing elements 5 at predetermined intervals. In other words, the raw brushing elements 5 are stably held by the holding device 32 and are extended to the molding cavity 4 through the passing holes 51. The securing member 31 has a predetermined height and extends along a longitudinal direction of the raw brushing elements 5, wherein the cutter device 33 is transversely provided slightly above a top edge of the securing member 31 so that the cutter device 33 is arranged to cut the raw brushing elements 5 to have a length substantially the same as the height of the securing member 31.
  • The cutter device 33 comprises a guiding board 331 and a cutting knife 332 provided underneath the guiding board 331, and a driving device 333 connected to the cutting knife 332, wherein the driving device 333 is arranged to drive the cutting knife 332 to cut the raw brushing elements 5 into a predetermined length.
  • The holding device 32 comprises a first and a second holding member 321, 322, and a first and a second locker driver device 3241, 3242. The first holding member 321 comprises a first locker member 3231 while the second holding member 322 comprises a second locker member 3232, wherein the first locker member 3231 is connected to the locker driver device 3241, while the second locker member 3232 is connected to the second locker driver device 3242. Each of the first and the second locker member 3231, 3232 has a plurality of passing holes 51 for allowing the raw brushing elements 5 to pass therethrough. The first and the second locker member 3231, 3232 are driven to move by the first and the second locker driver device 3241, 3242 respectively to selectively tighten the raw brushing elements 5 so as to selectively hold the raw brushing elements 5 in position for ease of cutting by the cutter device 33.
  • The holding device 32 further comprises a guiding tube 325 extended between the first and the second holding member 321, 322 and communicates with the corresponding passing holes 51 for facilitating easy passage of the raw brushing elements 5 along the passing holes 51.
  • On the other hand, the brush producing device further comprises an actuating device 42 provided underneath the molding frame 41 for actuating the securing device 3, wherein the actuating device 42 comprises an actuating member 43 extends across the molding frame 41 to bias against the securing member 31. When the actuating device 42 is activated, the actuating device 42 is arranged to drive the securing member 31 to move along a vertical direction.
  • The first and the second locker driver device, 3241, 3242, the driving device 333 and the actuating device 42 can be embodied as a wide variety of driving devices.
  • The manufacturing process of the brush and the brush head 1 is as follows:
  • 1. The securing device 31 and the molding frame 41 are opened to receive the raw brushing elements 5. The raw brushing elements 5 are arranged to pass through the passing holes 51 provided on the first holding member 321, the guiding tube 325, the second holding member 322, the first locker member 3231, the second locker member 3232, the guiding board 331, and the securing member 31 and extend to receive in the molding frame 41 and the molding cavity 4.
  • 2. The second locker member 3232 is driven to move transversely so as to tighten up the raw brushing elements 5 because the second holding member 322 and the guiding board 331 remain stationary for generating an enhanced tension on the raw brushing elements 5.
  • 3. The securing device 31 is driven to move downwardly along with the raw brushing elements 5. The raw brushing elements 5 are then transported to the molding cavity 4 for being heated to integrally connect with the brush support 11. • 4. When the securing device 31 reaches the molding frame 41, the cutting device 33 is activated to cut the raw brushing elements 5 into the brushing members 12.
  • 5. The securing device 31 is then upwardly moved back to its original position.
  • 6. When the securing device 31 is moving upwardly, the raw brushing elements 5 remain stationary. The brush head 1 is then removed from the molding cavity 4 and the above cycle continues.
  • Referring to FIGS. 9 to 16 of the drawings, a brush for cleaning a surface of a cleaning object according to the second embodiment of the present invention is illustrated. The brush comprises a brush body 50 and a brush head unit 60 connected to the brush body 50 arranged for providing a brushing surface 66 for cleaning the surface of the cleaning object in a gentle but effective manner
  • The brush head unit 60 comprises a plurality of bristle units 62 aligned and connected in layer to formed the brush head unit 60, wherein each of the bristle unit 62 comprises a plurality of bristle members 64 which are welded together to integrally forming the bristle unit 62, thereby a density and a distribution of the bristle members 64 in the brush head unit 60 are capable of being increased to a level at which gentle but effective cleaning is realized.
  • The bristle members 64 are aligned in order and welded at a first connecting end 641 to form a strip-like structure, which is then rolled and welded to form the bristle unit 62, thereby a second brushing end 642 of each of the bristle members 64 is provided for brushing while the first connecting ends 641 of the bristle members 64 are connected to the brush body 50.
  • In particular, the strip-like structure which is formed by the bristle members 64 is welded at two ends to form the bristle unit 62 in such a manner that the bristle unit 62 has a circular structure having a through-hole 621 at a central axis through the first connecting ends 641 of the bristle members 64. Then, the plurality of bristle units 62 are coaxially aligned together through the through-hole 621 along the central axis such that each of the second brushing ends 642 of the bristle member 64 of the bristle unit 62 is radially and outwardly extended from the central axis for providing the brushing surface 66.
  • It is worth mentioning that the plurality of bristle units 62 are rotatably connected to the brush body 50 through the through-hole 621 along the central axis such that the brush head unit 60 is capable of having rotational movement along the central axis, thereby the brush head unit 60 is capable of rolling along the surface of the cleaning object which contains unwanted object to be removed to effectively brushing and carrying away the unwanted object from the surface of the cleaning object.
  • Since the bristle unit 62 is formed by welding a number of the bristle members 64 together in an integral manner, the number or the size of the bristle members being used are highly flexible. In other words, a few or many bristle members 64 can be used to form one bristle unit 62. Likewise, very thick or very thin bristle members can be used for forming one bristle unit 62. In this way, flexibilities in relation to bristle density or thickness are provided through the second preferred embodiment of the present invention.
  • It is worth mentioning that the conventional manufacturing method usually involves the step of inserting the bristle into a plate. Therefore, the size and density of the bristle are limited by the plate construction and bonding method. Also, most of the time, metal wires are used for the connection. As a result, the bristle density or thickness is highly restrictive owing to the manufacturing limitations. According to the second preferred embodiment of the present invention, the use of welding to form a strip-structure of bristle members 64 and the bristle units 62 is a breakthrough in view of bristle density and thickness. In the absence of metal parts, the brush is simple for recycling and is environmentally friendly.
  • For example, an oralbrush in which the bristle head unit 60 has more than 22,000 or even 26,400 bristle members 64 of diameter of 0.076 mm can be realized according to the second preferred embodiment of the present invention, where a conventional toothbrush usually includes 1000 bristle of diameter of 0.13-0.2 mm
  • The bristle density and thickness or diameter is significantly related to cleaning effectiveness and softness, which in turn relevant to the application of the brush in different areas. Accordingly, a wide application possibilities such as oralbrush, facial brush or other utility brushes can be realized through the preferred embodiment of the present invention.
  • Preferably, the brush according to the second preferred embodiment of the present invention is an oralbrush (as shown in FIGS. 9-14) or a facial brush (as shown in FIGS. 15-16), which is gentle to human skin and body while providing effective cleaning effect.
  • Referring to FIGS. 9 to 14 of the drawings, the oralbrush according to a first and a second exemplary example of the second embodiment of the present invention is illustrated. The bristle member 64 has a diameter which is smaller than 0.08 mm, and preferably is approximate to 0.076 mm, and the bristle members 64 are nylon materials. The bristle unit 62 is formed by about 22,000 bristle members by welding. Accordingly, in view of the number of bristle members 64 and the diameter of each bristle member 64, the oralbrush is suitable for brushing a skin surface and a tooth surface inside a mouth of a living object. In a human object, a pore size of a skin surface is around 0.08 mm, therefore the bristle member 64 having a diameter smaller than 0.08 mm is sufficiently small to extending into the skin surface, which in turns stimulating capillaries under the skin surface and hence increasing tooth microcirculation and increasing saliva secretion. Saliva actions are effective in combating bacterial inside an oral cavity or the mouth of the human object in two ways. First, saliva helps to wash the bacteria. Second, saliva can prevent bacteria growth.
  • The brush body 50 is an elongated body having a first end 501 connected to the brush head unit 60 and a second end 502 serving as a handle. Preferably, the brush body 50 is made of non-metal materials.
  • Referring to FIGS. 9 and 10 of the drawings, an axis connector 511 which is coaxially connected to the elongated body of the brush body 50 is included. The elongated body of the brush body 50 has an axis connector hole 512 longitudinally indented from the first end 501 of the brush body 50 arranged for fitting and receiving one end of the axis connector 511 to secure the axis connector 511 with which the bristle units 62 are connected into position. Each of the bristle units 62 is rotatably and coaxially connected to the axis connector 511 through the through-hole 621, thereby the bristle head unit 60 is coaxially provided on the first end 501 of the brush body 50. Accordingly, the oralbrush can be rolled over the teeth surface and the skin surface in a continuous manner, providing brushing effect while effectively picking and carrying the unwanted object such as food residue inside the oral cavity. Unlike conventional toothbrush through which the unwanted object is loosened through brushing and then removed through rinsing, the oralbrush of the preferred embodiment of the present invention provides different brushing mechanism in which the unwanted object is picked up directly by the bristle members 64 and is held between the bristle members 64.
  • When the bristle diameter of less than 0.08 mm is used and the number of bristle members 64 is about 22,000, the brushing surface 66 as provided is gentle to touch but effective to providing cleaning effect. Owing to the softness of the bristle members 64, the oralbrush can be used directly on the tooth surface and the skin surface inside the oral cavity such as the gum, the throat and the tongue, even if the human object is particularly sensitive to brushing action. Also, the extra fine bristle members 64 can effectively fit to brush the teeth surface which is highly uneven in nature. In other words, the oralbrush can effectively clean the teeth surface and the skin surface inside the oral cavity without involving unnecessarily great brushing force and hence bleeding. The brush head unit 60 has a high level of softness, which is just like a sponge, for providing effective cleaning effect.
  • It is worth mentioning that the brush head unit 60 can be detachably connected to the brush body 50 through the axis connector 511. In other words, the brush head unit 60 is replaceable and the brush head unit 60 of different type or size can be selected.
  • Referring to FIGS. 11 to 13 of the drawings, a pair of position units 521 which are integrally and transversely extended from the first end 501 of the brush body 50 and an axis unit 522 which is connected between the pair of position units 521 to secure into position are included. Each bristle head unit 60 is rotatably connected to the axis unit 522 through penetrating the through-hole 621, thereby the central axis of the bristle units 62 is affixed through the axis unit 522 and is secured into position through the pair of position units 521.
  • It is worth mentioning that the brush head unit 60 can be detachably connected to the brush body 50 through the axis unit 522. In other words, the brush head unit 60 can be replaced.
  • Accordingly, the oralbrush according to the second exemplary example of the second preferred embodiment can be rolled over the teeth surface and the skin surface in a continuous manner, providing brushing effect while effectively picking and carrying the unwanted object such as food residue inside the oral cavity.
  • Preferably, the elongated body of the brush body 50 has a joint portion 523 between the first end 501 and the second end 502 of the brush body 50, defining a first handle member 524 towards the first end 501 and a second handle 525 member towards the second end 502 such that the first handle member 524 and the second handle member 525 is capable of being folded through the joint portion 523.
  • The elongated body of the brush body 50 may further include a brush head receiving cavity 526 provided on the second handle member 525 of the brush body 50 arranged for fitting and receiving the brush head unit 60 under a folded condition at which the first handle member 524 and the second handle member 525 are folded towards each other. In additional, a handle passage 527 opened through the brush head receiving cavity 526 arranged for air and water passage is provided in the brush head receiving cavity 526 of the second handle member 525.
  • Preferably, the brush head unit 60 has a preset number of bristle members 64 which is more than 20,000, thereby the brush head unit 60 is gentle but effective for brushing directly onto the living object and for brushing and carrying away the unwanted object from the surface for the cleaning object. As shown in FIG. 9 of the drawings, the number of bristle members in this type of oralbrush is approximate equal to 26,400.
  • Preferably, the oralbrush may further include a gum disc 67 provided between two bristle units 62 which are adjacently positioned arranged for providing gum massage action. The gum disc 67 has a preset thickness for separating the two bristle units such that when the unwanted object is carried on one particular bristle unit, a gap is provided for cleaning and removing the unwanted object from the particular bristle unit 62. In other words, the gum disc 67 not only provides alternate massage surface, but also offer a gap for cleaning the oralbrush.
  • Referring to FIG. 14 of the drawings, the oralbrush according to a third exemplary example is illustrated. In this exemplary example, the plurality of bristle members 64 comprises two sets of bristle members 64 of different diameters aligned in alternate layers to form the brush head unit 60 such that the brushing surface provided through the brush head unit 60 has an increased level of softness without affecting the ability to carry unwanted object. For example, in a standard adult size adult oralbrush, a standard adult size bristle members 64 is the first set of bristle members 64 and a kid size bristle members 64 is the second set of bristle members 64. The two set of bristle members 64 are aligned in alternate layers. Therefore, the softness of the adult oralbrush is increased owing to the presence of the second set of bristle members 64 in which the diameter of each of the bristle members 64 is smaller. Accordingly, the brushing surface is enhanced to reach the uneven surface such as the teeth surface or the skin surface inside the oral cavity, thereby eliminating the dead corners which is difficult to access by a conventional toothbrush.
  • Accordingly, the oralbrush according to the second preferred embodiment of the present invention is capable of providing the bristle member which has a much greater bristle density (about 20-folds of a conventional toothbrush) and a much smaller bristle diameter (about 50% of a conventional toothbrush) through the use of welding in the manufacture. Therefore, the oralbrush can provide a sponge-like feeling to the user and is suitable for baby, kids, the old or sensitive users. Also bristle members in high density is able to carry away bacteria without using toothpaste, thereby simplifying the brushing process and eliminating complications or side effects of toothpaste. It is also not necessary to wet the mouth before brushing.
  • It is worth mentioning that the old usually have less saliva secretion and therefore more susceptible to bacteria invasion. The oralbrush according to the second preferred embodiment of the present invention provides a gentle but effective solution to the old. The oralbrush is not only effective in brushing and carrying away unwanted object in the mouth in a gentle manner, but also penetrates through the skin pore to stimulate blood circulation and saliva secretion which is needed for washing bacteria and preventing bacteria growth. The high level of softness will not cause bleeding or stimulation to the user, which are highly undesirable factor to oral health in assisting bacteria growth. The oralbrush can effectively remove plaque without harming the gum in a gentle manner.
  • Referring to FIGS. 9 to 14 of the drawings, the oralbrush is capable of rotational movement. Accordingly, it is possible to move back and forth, up and down, left to right in the mouth to reach slits between teeth or to whirl away plaque. In other words, the oralbrush can fit into the highly uneven surface in the mouth for providing cleaning and massaging at the same time.
  • Referring to FIGS. 15 and 16 of the drawings, a facial brush according to another two exemplary embodiments are illustrated. The brush body 50 is constructed in such a manner that the brushing surface is easy to reach and roll over the face of a user. It is worth mentioning that more than one bristle units 66 can be used for fitting the surface for cleaning, which is the face surface. The manufacture method which involve welding makes it possible to have a high density of small-sized bristle members 64 to provided sufficiently gentle but effective cleaning effect.
  • Referring to FIG. 17 of the drawings, a method of manufacture of a bristle unit comprises the following steps:
  • (a) continuously providing a plurality of bristle members 64, each having an elongated body defining a first connecting end 641 and a second brushing end 642;
  • (b) forming a continuous strip-like structure of the bristle members 64 through welding the connecting ends of the plurality of bristle members 64;
  • (c) forming a bristle unit through rolling the strip-like structure of the bristle members 64 and welding the brush members 64 in such a manner that the first connecting end 641 of the brush members 64 define a through-hole 621 at a center of the bristle unit 62 and a brushing surface at a peripheral of the bristle unit 62.
  • It is worth mentioning that the above process is an automated process carried out through a manufacturing machine for bristle unit. The production of brush body 50 is a separate step and the connection between the brush body 50 and the brush head unit 60 involves only simple installation step. Accordingly, the bristle head unit 60 of different sizes can be fit to connect to the brush body 50, which provide flexibilities in the production process. In addition, the number of bristle units and the size of bristle units can be freely designed.
  • It will thus be seen that the objects of the present invention have been fully and effectively accomplished. It embodiments have been shown and described for the purposes of illustrating the functional and structural principles of the present invention and is subject to change without departure from such principles. Therefore, this invention includes all modifications encompassed within the spirit and scope of the following claims.
