Application August 23, 1935, Serial No. 37,416
1 Claim.
This invention relates to fountain pens.
It is an object of this invention to provide an improved fountain pen which retains a greater supply of ink than any other type of pen of a 5 proportionate size and which is relatively simple and inexpensive in construction and efiicient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing showing a preferred embodiment of the invention, and in which:
Thesingle figure is a central longitudinal sectional view of a preferred embodiment of the invention, showing the parts thereof in their normal position.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the figure and is therein generally indicated at 42. This form of the invention comprises a barrel 43 in which is slidably mounted a plunger-cylinder 44 which has a finger knob 5 -45 at one end thereof, and a cap 46 is detachably threaded into the upper end portion of the barrel 43.
- Frictionally fitted into one end portion of the barrel 43 is a tubular member 41 in which are 0 mounted a feed 48 and a pen or nib 58, and
provided in the feed 48 is a feed passage 49.
Likewise provided in the feed 48 is a short transverse passage 5l, and communicating with this passage 5| is one end portion of an air tube 52,
35 the body of which extends into the plunger The tubular member 41 has an end portion or extension 54, and attached to this end portion 54 of the tubular member 4'! is one end portion 0 53 of a bellows 55, the other end portion 56 of the bellows 55 being attached to a reduced end portion 58 of the plunger 44.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention shown in the figure ink may be drawn up into the plunger 44 by removing the cap 46, inserting the pen 50 and feed 48 into the ink supply, and then pressing upon the finger knob 45, 5 thereby depressing the plunger 44 and contracting the bellows 55. When pressure upon the knob 45 of the plunger 44-45 is relieved, the bellows 55 will again expand into its normal position, and ink will be forced by atmospheric air pres- 10 sure up through the feed passage 49 into the bellows 55 and thence into the plunger-reservoir While we have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying our invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. We, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail ourselves of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim. s
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
In a fountain pen, a barrel; a tubular plungercylinder slidably mounted in said barrel and including an end portion providing a finger grip;
a member mounted in said barrel having a feed passage formed therein; an air tube having an open inner end portion communicating with said feed passage and having a portion extending into said plunger; a bellows in said barrel having an end portion attached to said member and having an end portion attached to said plunger at the opposite end of the latter from said finger grip; and a cap detachably mounted upon said barrel over said finger grip.
ALFRED A. GAIMARI. ANGELO GAHVIARI.
