July 23, 1940; M. J. HANNI TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER CABINET Filed July 6, 19:59
' INVENTOR 7 AT r0 NEY.
Patented July 23, 1940 UNITED STATES TOOTHBIBUSHIZHOLDERQ CABINET Mowry J. Hanni, Youngstown, Ohio Application at a. 1.1939, Serial No. 282,973
g 2 'Claimsl 7 (01.- 206-151) This invention relates to a toothbrush holder. The principal object of this invention is the provision of a toothbrush holder taking the form of a small cabinet with a plurality of openings in the front thereof adapted to receive the bristle portion of a toothbrush.
A further object of this invention is;the pro vision of a toothbrush holder comprising. a small cabinet having openings therein adaptedltoreceive the bristles of a toothbrush and in addition thereto provided with dehydrating meansassociated therewith. I
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a toothbrush cabinet adapted to receive the bristle portion of toothbrushes and provided with clips adapted to hold toothbrushes in proper position in the said openings.
It is well-known that many and various attempts have been made providing various types of cabinets and holders for toothbrushes; the majority of which have comprised ordinary cabinets provided with hinged lids and racks therein adapted to hold toothbrushes. The principal objection to this form of toothbrush holder is in the nuisance of opening the cabinet and placing the toothbrush therein or removing it therefrom.
The invention shown and described herein comes as a result of an attempt to provide a more practical form of toothbrush cabinet; particularly, one in which it would be unnecessary to open or close any lid portion and which would conveniently hold a toothbrush in readily accessible position and yet keep the bristle portion of the toothbrush adequately covered. In this connection it is believed essential that the toothbrush be kept in a sanitary cabinet preferably equipped with some form of an antiseptic dehydrator device so as to insure the cleanliness of the toothbrush and prevent its being contaminated as would be the case in the event it was hung in the open. Therefore, the invention herein disclosed provides a practical, economical and attractive cabinet in which a plurality of toothbrushes may be positioned and which will at all times keep them under protective covering and, therefore safe to. use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing,,wherein: Figure '1 is a perspective view of thetoothbrush cabinet. f a
Figure 2 is a front plan view of the removable frontportion of the toothbrush cabinet shown in Figure l. Figure 3 is a perspective view with partsbroken away showing the lower portion of the toothbrush cabinet with the front section thereof removed. ,f. By referring to. the drawing and FigureQl in particular, it will be seen that .the invention com prisesa toothbrush cabinet rectangularinfform provided with side walls I, a top section [and bottom section 3. In order that the toothbrush cabinet may be conveniently attached to a wall or medicine cabinet door a back wall 4 is provided with a plurality of openings 5 adapted to receive screws or other attachment means. In this connection it is obvious that vacuum cups may be attached to the cabinet by means of these openings 5 and thus serve to hold the entire cabinet on any wall surface. It will be seen that the front portion of this rectangular toothbrush cabinet comprises a removable front portion 8 which is of appropriate size and adapted to slide downwardly into position in the front of the cabinet by reason of vertical VeS 7 or ed at each side of the cabinet proper. These vertical grooves 'l are formed by reason of a stub partition 8 formed on each of the side walls I and a rounded section 9 formed of the side wall itself so as to leave vertical grooves 1 therebetween. The removable frontportion 6 is provided with ears III at either side thereof which are adapted to rest upon the upper edges of the side walls I when this removable front portion 6 is slid into position. Positioned in this removable front portion 6 there are a plurality of openings H each of which is adapted to receive the bristle portion of a toothbrush and each of which is of appropriate size to fit around the bristle portion of a toothbrush closely enough to stop free circulation of air thereby. In order that the toothbrushes will be held in proper position with their bristle portions extending into the cabinet thru the openings l in the removable front portion 6 thereof,
a plurality of suitable metallic clips I2 are positioned on the front of this front portion 6, one beneath each of the openings H. These clips l2 are adapted to receive and retain the narrow handle portion of the tooth brush immediately adjacent the bristle area. These clips l2 may be attached to the front portion 6 by any practical means.
tions of the toothbrushes therei'n so that the action of the dehydrator cake would effectively said cabinet.
By referring to Figure 3 of the drawing it will be seen that a depression I3 is provided in the bottom section 3 of the cabinet and is adapted to receivea dehydrator cake which may comprise a proper mixture of calcium chloride together with a suitable antiseptic which will insure the cleanliness of toothbrushes positioned in the The rectangular cabinet is preferably of sufficient size to allow the free circulation of air around and about the bristle pordry and condition the bristles for the next use.
It will thus be seen that a practical toothbrush cabinet has been provided which is capable; of
economic manufacture; the front portion 6 being provided with the clips l2 and the openings :1
thruwhich the bristles of the toothbrushes are positioned. This front portion 6 may be economically formed in manufacture and conven= ientlyandpractically positioned in the cabinet tached to or afiixed in the removable front portion 6. It will be seen that the upper edge of the front portion 6 of the toothbrush cabinet extends above the top 2 of the cabinet so as to form a convenient ledge upon which may be positioned a tube of toothpaste, the upper edge of the front portion 6 serving to insure the toothpaste tubes staying in positionthereon.
What I claim is: I l. A toothbrush cabinet comprising ,a rectan'gula'r'box having a removable front panel, a
plurality of openings in said removable front panel together with a plurality of clips one be- 'ne'atheach of the said openings, a depression formedin the said cabinet adapted to contain a dehydrator cake, vertical grooves formed in the said cabinet adjacent the front corners I thereof adapted to front portion therein.
2. A toothbrush holder adapted to protect the bristle portions of toothbrushes and comprising a "box 'haviiig'a slidable front section. a pair of vertical grooves one at each front corner of the said cabinet in which the'said slidable' front section is normallypositioned, an extended upper edgeon saidslidable front adapted to forma ledge in connection with the top of the said-cabijnet, a plurality of-"bpeiriings in the said'slidable front panelfadapted torecei'vethe-bristle per-- tions of toothbrushes together-with a plurality of clips one linden-each of the said openings adapted "to hold the toothbrushes with their bristled portions inthe said openings.
