This invention relates to shaving appliances and more particularly to a novel shaving appliance embodying a razor element, a shaving fluid applicator element and a handle member includ- I ing shaving fluid supply element or reservoir.

One important object of the present invention is to provide a unit shaving appliance embodying a combined razor and shaving cream applicator having a reservoir handle for supplying the cream to the applicator.

Another object of the invention is to provide a shaving appliance of-the character designated in which a dispensing cap for the collapsible tube reservoir which embodies arazor element and an applicator device, the tube forming a convenient handle for the razor and the applicator device.

Another object of the invention is to provide a paste tube cap member of the character designated having a head portion of molded plastic material including angularly disposed surfaces, one of which shall include a razor element and the othera shaving fluid applicator.

another object of the inventionis to provide a collapsible paste tube cap in which the valve element forcontrolling the emission of the paste j shall cooperate .withthe sides of the applicator element-to facilitate the operation thereof.

Another object of the invention is to provide a shaving appliance ofthe character designated in which the supply valve for dispensing the fluid paste shall, be-eccentrically located in the cap so as to facilitate-the dispensing of the paste when the valve is open and eflect the sealing of the contents in the tube when the valve is closed. A further object of the invention is to provide a combination shaving appliance of the character designated embodying plastic base materials which shall not be subject to corrosion and may be readily cleaned in a convenient and sanitary manner.

These and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following specification and drawing and particularly set forth in the claims. In the drawing:

Referring to Flgs.'1, 2 and 3 of the drawing there is shown a shaving appliance embodying ,the present invention which embodies the conventional type of collapsible paste tube l0, mounted on this tube is a substantially triangular shaped head or closure cap member H constructed and arranged to support'on one side thereof a razor element It and on the other side a shaving cream or paste applicator. l3. This applicator may also be used as an ordinary massage device if desired.

The head or cap portion embodying the massage element is preferably made of a plastic or moldable composition material which is not subject to deterioration or corrosion and I have found that Lucite for example, is the preferred material. The head portion being substantially triangular shape, one side is angularly disposed to the base, and handle member, and supports the razor in a convenient and accessible manner forshaving. The razor is attached to the inclined surface by an outwardly curved metallic base plate member I4. I This plate ll has a pair of lateral edge flanges l5-.- l5.turned inwardly from the curved surface of the plate and fit into a pair of corresponding parallel grooves l6-l6 formed in the head surface. The flanges are drawn into firm rigid gripping engagement with the sides of the channel grooves lB-IG by a screw member I! which tends to depress the plate and forces the flanges li-IS to the grooves li-IG.

The base plate is also provided with a pair of key hole slots I8-l8 for receiving a pair of corresponding lugs projections Iii-l9 formed on an outer razor guard plate member 20. This guard member is provided with a curved surface corresponding to the base plate. I so that a razor blade 2| may have the proper deflection relative to the guard and be held firmly in place. The blade 2! is clamped in place by providing the lugs Iii-l! with saw-cut edge slots 20-20 which fit the throat or narrow portion of the slots "-48.

It will be observed that the razor element is of the "Gillette type and the parts are assembled and held in position by placing the blade 2| on the guard lugs l9l9 and then pressing the lugs into the slots lt-ll with a firm movement to cause the saw-cut slots 20*" to en age the sides of the key slots. The razor thus assembled, it is ready for use.

The applicator portion of the head formed on the opposite-angular surface of the hollow cap ll includes a pair of spaced apart curved shaped elements 22-22 between which is located a rotary valve member 22, having a longitudinally disposed rib element 24 which serves as an operator member for the valve. This rib member projects upwardly between the curved portions 22-22 and thereby facilitates the massage action of the applicator when used to dispense and apply cream to the skin prior to using the razor.

The head portion being of a hollow form, it is provided with a chamber or passage 25 which leads from a top threaded opening 22 in the paste tube through the head II to dispense the fluid through the-valve member 23 and to the outer surface of the applicator ridge portions 22-22.

It will be noted that the valveelement 22 is eccentrically located within the hollow head portion passage 28. Thiseccentricity is provided to facilitate the operation of the cap by permitting the same to be easily released from sealing contact points 21-22. This arrangement seals the opening when the cap is closed, as shown in Fig. 4, and enlarges the opening when the cap is opened as shown in Fig. 5. The eccentric bearing is shown by numeral 29. An important feature of the present construction is that the contents of the tube is sealed air-tight when the shaving paste is not in use and by providing a composition "Lucite" head, any danger of cakingor corrosion is reduced to a minimum.

Another important feature of "Lucite composition in this particular construction is that it permits the parts to be united by a cement which will not be deteriorated by the chemical action of shaving creams. In order to assemble the valve parts in the cap head Ii, an end plate 30 of Lucite is provided and united to the head by a suitable cement to form a rigid inte-' gral unit.

The hollow head I I is molded with a depression SI for receiving one of the eccentric rotary valve bearing members 29 and the plate 20 is provided with a similar depression for the opposite bearing member 29 as shown in Fig. 6.

Another important feature of the present construction is that'the upper curved lateral edge surface of the applicator ridge element 22, adjacent the blade edge 2|, forms a continuation of the arc of curvature of the outer blade guard Y From the foregoing it will be noted that I have provided a shaving appliance which combines a razor element a shaving cream reservoir and an applicator in a novel and useful manner, and it is obvious that various changes may be made therein without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the following claims.

What I claim is:

1. In a shaving appliance comprising in combination a paste tube reservoir serving as a handle for the appliance, a hollow threadedclosure cap for the tube including a surface havin means for mounting a razor base element, a razor element attached to said base, a surface angularly disposed with respect to said razor element including spaced apart shaving paste applicator ridge portions, one of said ridge portions being adjacent to and parallel with an edge of said razor element, and a valve element located in the cap for controlling the distribution of paste to said applicator portions.

2, Apparatus of the character designated in claim 1 in'which the razor base element includes a curved metallic base plate, a razor blade element, means for curving the blade edge adjacent to the applicator ridge at the apex of the cap, and means for rigidly securing the plate to the cap surface.

3. Apparatus of the character designated in claim 1 in which the razor support includes a pair of grooves provided in the cap surface, a curved base plate. member having a pair of lateral edge flanges fitting into said grooves and means for clamping the flanges in said grooves.

4. Apparatus of the character designated in claim 1 in which the razor support includes a curved base plate having a pair of key hole slots formed in said plate, a razor blade element having openingsregistering with said key hole slots, an outer guard member for said blade having a pair of lugs arranged to pass through said blade and enter said key hole slots and means on said lugs for engaging the narrow sides of said key hole slots to clamp the razor element together.

5. Apparatus of the character designated in claiml including a valve element which is eccentricaliy mounted in said cap relative to an opening in said applicator surface between the ridge portions.

6. Apparatus of the character designated in claim 1 in which a valve element is eccentrically mounted in said cap relative to an opening in said applicator surface between the ridge portions and means for operating the valve including a rib member which extends substantially the length of the valve member and projects upwardly from the applicator surface and between the ridge portions.

7. Apparatus of the character described in claim 1 in which the apex ridge portion'of the applicator forms a base guard portion for the upper edgeof the razor blade element.
