Similar" reference characters indicate 'fcorre sporiding partsfthroughout the severa views in" Referring to the drawing in detail, A' desig'-j na'tes' generally the compact disclosed in Figures 1 to 6 inclusive. 1 The compact preierably comi prises an outer'shell or casing rd-permanently,
closediat'the end H and open at the opposite end The ca'singl llreceives a block 13-, toothbrush 4T5" s'i-ndvial 'zllifln cross sectional formation the block F3: conforms to theinner cross-sectional for'rii ation'of' the casing Hi and has a snug lit in the forward'portion of the-casing. The block is providedin its upper side with the gr-cove -M- which extends longitudinally; thereof; "The atively thick forwardportions a! and relativelyi thin: rearward' port/ions l-4b.-f The rear end o the shank 15 of a toothbrush l l i's pivoted'yas :sat-1 8 to and between the flange portions l4a for movement into folded or extended position with relation to the block l3. The brush i6 is provided with the usual bristles l1. The flanged portions Ma have provided at the inner sides and near their forward ends with lugs Me which are located in notches 15a of the brush shank l5 when the brush is in extended position. The block I3 is provided at its lateral side near its forward end with a lug 23 which hasa snug fit in a slot 22 formed in the casing I 0. I
When in extended position, the brush 5 is arranged for use. It is held in this position against any accidental movement with relation to the casing l0 and, block l3 by the ribs Ma, lugs 14c and casing Ill. The casing l0 and block I: are held against any accidental-movement one with relation to the other by the lug 23.
The casing I0 is provided with inner longitudinal ribs 19 which extend longitudinally thereof and which contact with the rear ends of the flange portions Ma of the block l3 and with the upper edges of the flange portions Nb of the block, whereby to limit the insertion of the block into the casing and to assist the lug 23 in holding the block against any accidental movement 7 I with relation to the casing. When the brush I6 is in folded position, the shank with the brush is located between the flange portions Ma and Nb and the ribs 19, and the bristles I! are located rearwardly of the block l3.
The block I3 is provided with a bore 13a which is fully open at its rear end and Which is fully closed at its front end. The bore l3a adapts the block l3 to receivea vial 20 containing dentifrice.
The front end of the vial 20 is closed bythe closed end of the bore l3a, and said end of the vial is screw threadedly engaged, as at 2|, with:
the wall of the bore. The vial 28 has a suiiiciently snug fit in the bore |3a to prevent it from" having any lateral movement with' rel Normally the brush I6 is folded and'the vial is sealed in the block [0, which is'confined within the casing Ill. The lug 23 protrudes slightlybeyond the outer face of th casing 10, 20
so as to enable the removal of the body [3 therefrom toliave the brush [6 unfolded orextended fo'ra 'After the unfolding of the brush 1B or the extending thereof on removal of the block it, the latter is replaced in the casing l0, thus holding thebrush fixed in its extended or'unfolded position for use. I v
v In Figures '7, 8 and 9 a slightly modified form ofjthe compact is shown. This form of the compact 'difiers from the one shown in Figures 1 through 6 and 10 and 11, in that the' block, here designated 24 is adapted to receive adrawer containing a powdered dentifrice. The drawer 25 is provided at its rear end with a pull 26, and it is held against accidental rearward movement from the block 24 by ribs 21 formed within and extending longitudinally of the casing HL' The ribs 21 are located on the lower side of the casing l0 and contact with the rear end of the drawer 25. As shown in Figure 9, the brush I6 'may be supplied with dentifrice after the withdrawal of the block 24 from the casing ID and before swingingthe brush into position for use. The ribs 21 make it impossible for the drawer 25 to occupy a partly opened position when the block 24 is in prevents any waste place in the casing Hi. This of the powdered dentifrice.
What is claimed is:
1. A dental compact comprising a casing open at its forward end, a block removably positioned in the end, the block being provided at its upper 5 side with relatively spaced flanges, a brush having a shank pivoted to and between said flanges for movement into folded or extended position with relation to the block, and lugs formed on the inner side of said flanges forwardlyof said pivot, the brush shank being provided with notches receiving said lugs when the brush is in extended position with respect to the block and is held engaged therewith when the latter is subsequently positioned in the open end of the casing.
la 2. 4 dental compact comprising a casing open =at;its"forward end, a block removably positioned in the fo ward end portion of the casing, and provided*withspacedflanges, a brush having a shank pivoted to and between said flanges for movement into folded or extended position with relation to-the'block,and ribs carried by the casing and extending rearwardly from saidflanges to align the brush in its folded position upon the block.
3. A dental compact comprising a casing open at itsforward end, a block removably positioned in the forward end portion of the casing, a brush having ashank pivoted to the block for movement into folded or extended position with relation thereto, theca'singbeingprovided at its front end with a slotfand a lug carried by the block and engaged with said slot to'facilitate the separation of the casing and the block.
v 4'. A dental compact, comprising a casing open at one end, an elongated block positioned in the open end of the casing and extending into the casing a distance short of the otherend to provide an open compartment, the block having spaced'parallel flanges, a brush pivoted to and between the flanges adjacent one end'of the block andmovable to 'an active' position to extend one from the end of the block and the casing, and to a closed position overhanging the other end of the block with theibristles located in the compartment, and the casing being provided at its 5 open-end with a slot, and a. lug carried by the block. and engaged'in said slot to facilitate th separation of thecasing and the block.
