Application February 23, 1946, Serial No. 649,479
3 Claims.
This invention relates to toothbrushes and more specifically to a combination toothbrush and dentifrice receptacle.
An object of the invention is to provide a toothbrush with a receptacle adapted to contain a tube of dentifrice and to prevent its turning therein.
Another object is to provide a combination toothbrush and receptacle having means to eject a dentifrice tube therefrom.
Still another object is to provide a combination toothbrush and receptacle adapted to be carried in and clipped to a clothes pocket.
These and other objects are accomplished in part by providing a combination toothbrush and receptacle comprising a separable toothbrush having a bristled head, a short shank and a tubular handle removably secured at its closed end to the toothbrush shank and to a toothbrush protecting tube fitting about the bristles and brush shank. The other and open end of the tubular handle has a cap removably secured thereto. Two longitudinal grooves are cut in the handle bore, permitting a tube of dentifrice to be housed in the bore with its ends in the grooves. A dentifrice ejector consisting of a disc Within the handle bore, an ejector shank joined to the disc and extending through a slot in the walls of the handle, and a knob on the outer end of the ejector shank, is capable of pushing the dentifrice tube toward the open mouth of the handle as the knob is advanced in the slot.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a combination toothbrush and receptacle for the brush and dentifrice, said combination embodying features of the invention herein.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a separable toothbrush member of the combination shown in Fig. 1, the elements being disengaged to show details of construction.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view along the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Figs. 4 and 5 are sectional views along the lines 44 and 55 respectively of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a view partly in elevation and partly in section of a modified combination toothbrush and receptacle.
Fig. 7 is a sectional View along the line of Fig. 6. I
Fig. 8 is a view partly in elevation and partly in section of a second modification of the invention.
Fig. 9 is a sectional view along the line 9-9 of Fig. 8.
In the drawings and in the specification, in which like reference numbers designate similar parts, the numeral 10 indicates a combination toothbrush and receptacle shown in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive. The combination H] is comprised of a separable toothbrush II, a toothbrush protecting tube I2, and a dentifrice retaining cap [3.
The separable toothbrush ll consists of a bristled brush head I 4 merging into a short shank [5 havin male threads l6 capable of being engaged in a threaded hole I! of a tubular toothbrush handle and dentifrice receptacle IS. The tubular handle and receptacle [8 has a bore l9 adapted to receive a tube of toothpaste, powder or other dentifrice which can be inserted through an open end or mouth 20 opposite the end having the threaded hole IT. A longitudinal slot 2| extends through the Wall of the tube 18 intermediate the ends of the tube bore IS. A dentifrice ejector 22, comprising an ejector disc 23 joined along a portion of its periphery to an ejector piece 24 having a shank 25 and a knob 26, is positioned with its disc 23 fitting slidably on the bore 19, its shank 25 extending through and capable of sliding in the slot 2| and its knob 26 on the outside and serving as a grip by means of which the ejector 22 can be moved longitudinally to force a tube of dentifrice in the bore toward the receptacle mouth 25!. The knob 26 is enlarged. and cannot pass through the slot 2|, thus preventing disassembly of the ejector unit from the tubular handle and receptacle l8.
Said handle !8 has male threads 2'! at its mouthed end, said threads being adapted to engage female threads 28 of the cap l3, thus closing the tubes open end and permitting a con-- tainer of dentifrice to be securely housed therein.
The brush protecting tube 12 has a closed end 29, an open, female threaded end capable of engaging male threads 3! near the toothbrush holding end of the tubular handle l8, and a clip 32 enabling the combination I!) to be carried in a clothes pocket in the same manner as a fountain pen. The bore 33 of the brush protecting tube I2 is adapted to receive the bristled brush head l4 together with its short shank I5 and the reduced end 34 of the tubular handle I8, said reduced end being provided with the threaded hole i1 hereinabove described.
In Figs. 6 and '7, the numeral 35 designates a modified combination toothbrush and receptacle which has a tubular toothbrush handle and dentifrice receptacle 36 having a bore 31 having two opposing longitudinal grooves 38 therein. These grooves perform a double function since they can accommodate the widened side portions of a collapsible tube of dentifrice, at the same time preventing said dentifrice tube from turning when its cap is removed. Except for said grooves 38 and the fact that the handle 35 does not have the longitudinal slots 25 or the ejector 22 provided in the handle 18, the handle 35 is, similar in other respects to the handle [8. In all other respects, the combination 35 is constructed similarly to the combination Hi.
In Figs. 8 and 9, the numeral another modified combination toothbrush and receptacle which has a tubular toothbrush handle and dentifrice receptacle 40 having a bore with two opposing longitudinal grooves 42 therein. In all other respects, the handle M3 is similar to the handle i 8 and the combination it identical with the combination 39.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
