TOOTH-BRUSH AND CASE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,934, dated September 13, 1881.

Be it known that we, IsAAc N. ARMENT and ALLEN E. SCOTT, citizens of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Columbia, Washington Territory, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tooth- Brnshes and Cases; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention has for its object to furnish an improvement in toothbrushes and casings.

It consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts hereinafter more particularly described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of the casing and brush. Fig.2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 shows the easing with brush inserted therein, and Fig. 4 is a detail of the casing.

a is a casing of suitable length, and adapted to receive and hold the brush. It is open at both ends, and is divided by a cross-partition, a, placed nearer one end than the other, into the longer chamber a and the shorter chamber ed. The shorter chamber is designed to hold the dentifrice, and its outer end is closed by the hinged cap a. Near the outer and open end of the longer chamber there is provided an inwardly-projecting flange or lip, a and is' provided at the outer end with a springcatch, a.

b adapted to fit snugly down into the open end of the chamber a and against the flange a The head I; is so formed that when its outer end is seated on the flange a the other end will be flush with the outer end of the casing and be held by the lip on the spring a, as shown in Fig. 2. The brush 1) and its shank can be removed from the position shown in Fig. 2, and reversed and the brush inserted into the casing. The inner end of the head I) will now be seated on the flange a and thelip of the spring a will catch over the edge of the outer end of the said head,as shown in Fig.3.

By the construction shown a very convenient pocket tooth-brush is provided. Asmall button, I), or other suitable deviceis provided on the outer end of the head If, by which the brush may be easily drawn out of the casing.

Having thus described our invention, what We claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination, with the casing at, having the inner projecting flange, a and the springcatch u of the brush b, provided with a head,
