Application J une24, 1947@ Serial No. 7.56.3131
Claims.
My invention relates. to tooth brushes, and more particularly to a tooth brush combined with a tooth paste tube.
The object of my invention is to provide a tooth brush and a tooth paste container combination wherein the tooth brush is pivotally mounted on said container` Another object of my invention is to provide a tooth brush and a tooth paste container combination wherein the tooth brush is movable to a position in which it can receive tooth paste expelled from the mouth of the container or to a position wherein a portion of the tooth brush closes the mouth of the. container and the container serves as a handle for the tooth brush in brushing the teeth.
Other objects of my invention may appear in the following specification describing my invention with reference to the accompanying drawings illustrating a preferred embodiment ofv my invention.
It is, however, to be understood, that my inventiony is` not to be limited or restricted to the exact construction and combination of parts described in the specification and shown in the drawings, but that such changes and modifications may be made which fall within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is alongitudinal section taken through the illustrated device on the linev I-l of Figure 3, the tooth brush being shown partly in elevation and partly in section.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a sectional view takenl on. line 3-3 of. Figure l.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line, 4-4
of Figure 1.
l Referring in detail to the drawings, the illustrated device.. comprises a container ill having. a substantially cylindrical shape, having a reducedv nozzle II on its forward end. The container has a.` narrow slot I2 formed through itsr top and extending along the major portion of the length o the container, starting adjacent the closed rear. end I3 of the container and extending to a point close to the frontend.
Adjacent the forward end of the container a diametrically extending narrow support wall I4 is provided connecting the circumferential top andA bottom wall portions I5 and I6, respectively,
of the container. The forward surface I'I of the wall I4 is substantially semi-circular.
A channel I8 is formed in the wall. of the container approximately centrally of the thickness 2. thereof. This channel starts at the same point at the rear end of the container at which the slot I2 starts-and extends forwardly throughthe supporting wall I4, running parallel to the semicircular forward end of said wall, and continues through the lower portion of the Wall of the container IIJ to a point diametrically opposite to the start ofthe channel I8 in the upper wall portion of the container.,
A substantially cylindrical piston I9 fits slidably in the container andis provided with a lug 20 extending upwardly through the slot I2. A knurled hand grip 2 I` is formed on the outer end 0f said lug so that. the Piston I9 can be moved axially in the container I0.
In the above described channel I a flexible ribbon 22 is slidably coniined and' has one end secured tol andv extending forward from the lug 29 on the piston I9. The other end of the ribbon 22 extendsthrough an upwardly facing opening 23 provided at the rear end of the channel I- in the lower wall portion of the container I0 and is connectedto the rearward side of the lug 2li, so that the ribbon 22 will travel through the channel I8 when the piston I9 is moved forwardly or rearwardly in the container I0.
The container'. is lled through the nozzle II with tooth paste under pressure with. the piston IS. positionedy at its rearmost position in, the container I0, as shownin Figure 1. The ribbon 22 prevents the. tooth. paste. from extruding through the slot I2 in the container.
The forward portion ofv the container wall is approximately one-half as thick as the rest of the container Wall and is formed in its outside surface with two longitudinal grooves 23' which are arranged diametrically opposite to each other and. at a circumferential distance of on the container. wall from the slot I2.
The tooth brush` 24, has a. conventional head 25. with whichA a` plurality of bristle tufts 264 are connected. Instead of the usual tooth brush handle asemi-cylindrical part 2'I is formed on the rearward end ofthe head 25. Each rearward upper corner of the. semi-cylindrical handle part 2.7. has a pin. 28 litting. slidably in the grooves 2.3.. 'in the container wall, so that the brush 24 is attached. to said container IIJ' removably, slidably and pivotally.
On the inner surface of the handle part 29 directly adjacent tothe brush head 25 is a semiglobular projection 3U fitting the opening of the nozzleA l I. Surrounding the semi-globular projection 3ll`is a circular at surface 3l adapted to engage the forward end* of' the nozzle I I. The inner surface of the handle part 25! is shaped so that it will abut the outer surface of the nozzle Il when the brush 2d is moved into nozzle closing and operative position by sliding the brush 21% forwardly in the grooves 23 from the position shown in full lines in Figure l and pivoting the brush upwardly and forcing the semi-globular projection 3@ into the ,opening of the nozzle Il.
When the tooth paste is to be deposited on the brush bristles 25 the brush is pivoted downwardly from the dotted line position shown in Figure 1 and slid rearwardly in the grooves 23' to the full line position shown in Figure l. Then the piston 2! is moved forwardly so as to expel a desired amount of tooth paste onto the bristles 26 arranged below the nozzle l l. After that the brush is returned into nozzle closing and operative position, shown in dotted lines in Figure l, wherein the container #E serves as a handle in brushing the teeth.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
