. I I v This invention relates to cigarette cases, particularly of the type adapted to be removably installed in a motor vehicle or carried in a handbag or the like, and in particular, the invention relates to a relatively thin dispensing cigarette case that may be retained on an instrument board by a magnet incorporated in the case, and that is so arranged that a cigarette may readily be withdrawn therefrom.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a cigarette case that is only opened when refilled, and that is provided with an opening with a sliding cover, wherein a cigarette may be withdrawn by the thumb and forefinger of one hand while the other remains on the steering wheel of a motor vehicle.
With the usual cigarette case, it is necessary for the operator of a motor vehicle to reach over to the glove compartment or first find a package in his pocket, or take a package from a handbag and then remove a cigarette therefrom. The attention of the operator is taken from the Wheel for at least a comparatively short period of time. With this thought in mind, this invention contemplates providing a cigarette dispenser that may be mounted in front of the operator of a motor vehicle, or at a convenient point in the vehicle, so that it is only necessary to reach over to the dispenser and readily withdraw a cigarette therefrom.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide a cigarette dispenser wherein the operator of a motor vehicle may obtain a cigarette without removing his eyes from the road.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cigarette dispenser that may be mounted on the interior of a motor vehicle without screws or other permanent attaching means.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cigarette dispenser from which a cigarette may readily be removed by the thumb and forefinger of a hand without holding the package or case in the other hand.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cigarette dispenser that holds a package of cigarettes, and that may readily be mounted in a convenient location in a motor vehicle, which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists of the new and useful combination, construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more fully described, set forth in the claim appended hereto, and disclosed in the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein:
1 Claim. (01. zoo- 1.2)
Figure '1 is a view showing the dispensing cigarette case as it would appear in view.
Figure 2 is a front elevational View, showing the case in closed position.
Figure 3 is a cross section through the case taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, showing the slide partly open.
Figure 4 is an elevational view, showing the case with the slide omitted, and with the parts opened.
Figure 5 is a View showing a sectional plan taken on line 55 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a detail showing a section through the lower corner of the front of the case, taken on line 5-6 of Figure 2.
eferring now to the drawings, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts, the dispensing cigarette case of this invention includes a relatively thin rectangular-shaped case l0 having a door ll forming one side, a slide 52 forming one end, and a spring clip I3 resiliently holding the slide and providing closures for finger openings l4 and [5 in the case and door, respectively.
The case [0 is formed with a side wall 10, an upper panel IT, a base [8, and a rear Wall 19, and the upper panel 7 is provided with a recess 20 in which a hub 21 of the door H is hinged by a pin 22. The base It is provided with a slot 23 in which a magnet 24 is mounted, and the rear wall i9 is provided with a similar slot 25 in which a magnet 25 is mounted. By this means the back or base of the case ma be positioned against a metal support and it will be held in position by the magnet in the adjoining edge or side.
The door ll is held in the closed position against the case by the spring clip iii of the slide [2 and the dovetail edges 2'! and 28 of the slide are positioned in grooves 29 and 30 in the forward edges of the case and door respectively. The arms 3! and 32 of the clip bear against the sides of the case and door and when the slide is in the lower position the arms cover the finger openings in the lower corners of the case and The base [0 is provided with a foot 33 having arcuate edges, and as shown in Figure l, the foot forms a support for the outer ends of cigarettes in the case, and extends into a recess 34 in the lower end of the slide.
With the parts arranged in this manner a package of cigarettes or any desired number of cigarettes may be placed in the case by removing the slide and opening the door, and after the cigarettes have been placed therein the slide with 3 the spring clip thereon is slid in the dovetail grooves, as illustrated in Figure 1, and when the slide is all of the way down the case is closed. When it is desired to remove a cigarette it is only necessary to raise the slide until the lower end is slightly above the first cigarette in the case, and the cigarette may be withdrawn with the thumb and forefinger. As the cigarette is withdrawn the next cigarette will drop downward by gravity, so that it is then in such a position that it may readily be removed.
It will be understood that modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
In a dispensing cigarette case, the combination which comprises a relatively thin rectangularshaped case having a side wall, upper panel, base, and an end wall, a door hinged to the upper panel and forming a side wall of the case, said side walls of the case having finger openings in the for- REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
