My'invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a combination tooth brush and paste holder in which the handle of the tooth brush serves as a container for the tooth paste which may be automatically fed to the bristles of the brush. It is an object of the present invention to provide a device of this type which will besimple in structure, economical of. manufacture, durable, compact, light and highly efilcient in use.

Another object of the invention is the provision in a device of this class having a pair of handleforming tubes, one of which is rotatably positioned within the other and adapted to contain the paste and so arranged and constructed that upon relative rotation of the tubes, the paste may be fed to the bristles of the brush.

Another object of the invention is the provision in a device of this class of a presser member which will travel axially of the inner tube upon a relative rotation of the tubes.

Another object of the invention is the provision in a device of this class of a construction whereby the paste may be positioned in the feeding tube as a cartridge, wrapped in paper or other suitable covering, and the tube provided with means for engaging and retaining the paper as the paste is fed.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

It is recognized that various changes and modiflcations may be made in the detail of structure illustrated without departing from the invention itself and it is intended that such variations and modifications shall be encompassed within the scope of the claims which form a part hereof.

As shown in the drawings, I provide an outer tube 9 closed at one end with the end wall ll which is curved to provide a convex outer surface and a concave inner surface. Projected through and attached to this wall III is a feeding tube ll threaded onto which is a brush element embodying the body l2 and the bristles ii. The body I2 is provided with the cavity [4 communicating with which are the openings I! so that the paste feeding into the cavity Il may pass outwardly through the openings I5 onto the bristles l3.

This outer tube 9 is provided on its inner surface with the spiral grooves or threads It.

An inner tube I1 is open at one end and provided at its opposite end with the knurled knob l8. Extending longitudinally of this tube I! on opposite sides are the slots l9 and 20, these slots being extended diagonally of the longitudinal axis of the tube 11, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. The open end of the tube i1 is provided with a plurality of circumferentially spaced, longitudinally directed slots 20 to provide the tongues 2| which are doubled upon themselves to provide hooks. Positioned in the tube I1 is a follower or presser member comprising the disc 22. Projecting outwardly from the periphery at diametrically opposite sides are lugs 23 and 24 which engage in the slots l9 and 20, respectively.

The tooth paste is provided in the form of a stick or cartridge 25 covered with the covering 26 which may be of oiled paper, cellophane or any other suitable material.

In the use of the device, the follower or presser member 22 would be dropped downwardly to the bottom or closed end of the tube ii. The covering 26 would then be torn away at one end of the cartridge and this cartridge would be placed in the tube I! with the bared end directed toward the open end of the tube H. The tube II is then inserted in the outer tube 9 in such a manner that the lugs 23 and 24 will engage in the grooves it formed on the inner surface of the outer tube 9.

It is preferred to form the inner tube I! from a resilient material so that when it is inserted into the outer tube 9, as shown in Fig. 2, the bulge at its open end will engage in a groove 21 formed in the inner surface of the outer tube 9, thus securing these parts against axial relative movemen In use, the operator would grip the outer tube 9 in one hand and by gripping the knob It with the other effect a relative rotation of the tubes 8 and II. This would cause the presser member 22 to travel longitudinally of the tube ll toward the open end thereof, thus forcing the 3 pastethroughthetube Ii into thecavity It. The hooks formed from the tongues 2| would serve as a gripping member to engage and retain the paper so that it would not pass into the tube II.

A cover tube 20 is provided which may be snapped into position over the closed end or the tube I so as to enclose the brush part of the apparatus.

With a combination tooth brush and tooth paste holder such as described, the user t always provided with tooth paste in an easily accessible form and the necessity of having two articles, such as a tooth brush and tooth paste tube, is eliminated. Moreover, the tooth paste is fed to the bristles as desired and an economy in the use of tooth paste is thus effected.

The bristles-of the brush are practically the only part which wear and with this construction, the element i2 may be removed and replaced so that a long lasting apparatus is thus provided.

What I claim as new is:

1. A combination toothbrush and paste holder oi' the class described, comprising: an outer tube having spiral grooves formed on its inner surface and closed at one end; a conduit projecting outwardly irom the closed end of said tube and communicating at one 01' its ends with the interior oi said tube; an inner tube for containing tooth paste and rotatably positioned within said outer tube and having oppositely disposed, diagonally directed, longitudinally extending slots formed therein and open at its inner end; a presser member positioned in said inner tube; diametrically opposed lugs projecting outwardly from the periphery of said presser member and extending through said slots and engaging in said grooves for eil'ecting a longitudinal movement of said presser member relatively to said tubes upon relative rotation of said tubes, the inner end 01' said inner tube being slitted to provide a. plurality of tongues, each of said tongues being turned inwardly for engaging a covering in which the toothpaste may be positioned.

2. A combination toothbrush and paste holder of the class described, comprising: an outer tube as having spiral grooves formed on its inner surface and closed at one end; a conduit projecting outwardly from the closed end of said tube and communicating atoneoiiioendswiththeinterior of said tube; an inner tube closed at one end and open at its opposite end for containing toothpaste andinsertedatitsopenend intosaid outer tube and rotatable therein and having oppositely disposed, diagonally directed, longitudinally extending slots formed therein; a presser member positioned in said inner tube and adapted for traveling longitudinally thereof, said inner tube projecting at its closed end beyond the end oi! said outer tube; diametrically opposed lugs projecting outwardly from the periphery oi said presser member and extending through said slots and engaging in said grooves for eilecting a longitudinal movement of said presser member relatively to said tubes upon relative rotation of said tubes; means on the outer end 01' said inner tube for rotating the same relatively to said outer tube, said outer tube having adjacent the inner end of said inner tube a groove formed on its inner surface; and a resilient, outwardly bulged portion on said inner tube for engaging in said groove and preventing relative axial movement of said tubes upon relative rotation of the same; and means on the open end of said inner tube projecting inwardly thereof ior engaging a covering in which the tooth paste may be positioned and preventing the traveling of the same to the end of said conduit.
