Application December 23, 1947, Serial No. 793,571
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toothbrushing equipment and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a toothbrush and dentifrice holder.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a holder including a body portion, a brush supporting element slidably carrled by the body portion, and novel and improved means for guiding the sliding movement of the brush supporting element relative to the body portion and for retaining the brush supporting element in an extended position for use.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a toothbrush and dentifrice holder that is extremely small and compact in structure and which is so designed as to facilitate the same to be quickly and readily applied to a garment or the like of a person carrying the same.
A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a toothbrush and dentifrice holder that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the present holder and showing the brush supporting element in an extended position;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the present holder taken substantially in the direction of the arrow numbered 2 in Figure 1, and with parts of the brush supporting element broken away and shown in section;
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the present holder showing the brush supporting element in a closed position and the dentifrice receptacle in a partially extended position;
Figure 4 is a rear elevational view taken substantially in the direction of arrow numbered 4 in Figure 3, showing the brush supporting element and dentifrice receptacle in a closed position and the cover for the holding body applied thereto;
Figure 5 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 5-5 of Figure 1;
Figure 6 is an elevational view of the closure used in conjunction with the present invention;
Figure 7 is a top plan view of Figure 6;
1 Claim. (Cl. 132--84) Figure 8 is an enlarged transverse horizontal sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 8-8 of Figure 1;
Figure 9 is an elevational view of the dentifrice receptacle used in conjunction with the present invention; and,
Figure 10 is a bottom plan view of the dentifrice holder taken substantially in the direction of arrow numbered ID in Figure 9.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral 12 represents a substantially rectangular body generally, of any suitable material having a pair of spaced parallel side walls it, a forward wall It and a rear wall Hi. The upper edges 2i] of the side walls M are arcuately formed and terminate at their lower extremities with the upper edge 22 of the forward wall 16 which is spaced inwardly from the upper edge 24 of the rear wall I 8.
Struck inwardly from the side walls I4 is a plurality of longitudinally spaced, substantially vertically disposed guide ears or tongues 26 that are spaced parallel between the rear wall It and forward wall [6. Slidably mounted between the guide tongues 26 and the rear wall I8, is a substantially rectangular brush supporting strip 28 that rigidly supports a plurality of outwardly projecting rivets or the like 30 that slidably engage a longitudinal guide slot 32 provided in the rear wall I 8. These rivets 30 support an arcuate finger receiving plate 34 the edges of which frictionally bear against the outer face of the rear wall it, as shown best in Figure 8 of the drawings. The upper end 36 of this strip 28 terminates in an angular stop 38 having an inturned, reduced bearing lip All that engages a recess 42 provided in one end of a bristle supporting head id. A fastener 46 carried by the opposite end of said head 34 receivably engages an internally threaded aperture 48 provided in the strip 28 adjacent the stop 38. A longitudinal support plate 53 is struck outwardly from the strip 28 to provide a bearing edge 52 that frictionally engages the upper edge 24! of the rear wall l8 to retain the strip 28 in an extended position as shown best in Figure 5 of the drawings.
The numeral 54 represents a substantially rectangular dentifrice receptacle which is slidably positioned between the guide tongues 26 and the forward wall It. The open lower end 55 of this receptacle frictionally engages the reduced end 58 of a knurled surface closure plug 6|]. Struck inwardly from adjacent the lower end 56 of the receptacle 54 is a plurality of tongues 52 providing discharge openings 64 for the receptacle. Fixed on the lower end 56 of the receptacle 54, is a closure plate 66 for the lower open end of the body 12. Rigidl mounted on the receptacle 54 adjacent the lower end 56, is knurled surface finger receiving lug 68 that slidably engages a longitudinal slot in the forward wall [6.
The numeral 12 represents a substantially rectangular closure perforated at its upper end 73. This closure 12 is open at its lower end 14 to slidably engage the body 12. Detents or recesses 16 on inner opposite faces of the closure 12 frictionally engage lugs 11 on the side walls 14 of the body l2 for retaining the closure 12 in a fixed position to the body 12 as shown best in Figure 4. An attaching finger or clip 18 fixed at one end on the closure 12 facilitates the placement of the present holder in position relative to a users garment or the like.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed 'as new is:
A toothbrush and dentifrice holder comprising a substantially channel shaped body open at its upper and lower ends, said body including a forward wall and a rear wall, guide ears fixed within said body and spaced parallel to said forward wall and rear wall, a dentifrice receptacle slidably mounted for movement into and out of the lower end of said body, said receptacle being slidable between the forward wall of said body and said guide ears and guided during its sliding movement by the guide ears, additional means guiding the sliding movement of said receptacle, means for closing the lower end of said body, further means for closing the upper end of said body, means carried by said further closing means for attaching the body relative to a supporting element, a brush holding member slidably mounted between the rear wall of said body and said guide ears for movement into and out of the upper end of said body and means guiding the sliding movement of said brush holding member.
