3 Claims.
This invention relates to a brush and more particularly to a sanitary brush.
An object of the invention is to provide a brush which by its unique structure may be disassembled for the sanitary cleaning thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a brush having removable bristle tufts which may be removed for the individual cleaning thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a brush so constructed that the bristle section can be removedfrom the seat and handle of the brush in the case of a hand, or from the mounting in the case of circular or fiat mechanical brushes; wherein the same can be easily and more readily cleaned and washed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a brush wherein the bristles can be removed and reinserted in the brush mounting after cleaning.
A further object of the invention is to provide a brush having an opening above the bristle section, and also drainage through the bristles wherein cleaning of head can be under pressure, forced through each section of bristles in order to clean the same, and also so arranged that the cleaning fluid can be forced not only through the center of the group of bristles, but also about the outside of each group of bristles to effect easier and more thorough cleaning.
With the above and other objects in View, the
invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a rear view of an embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional View on the line 2--2 of Figure l;
Figure 3 is a side View of the brush head and handle;
Figure 4 is a face or front view of the bristle tufts;
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional View of the bristle tuft holder;
Figure 6 is an elevational view of a bristle tuft;
Figure 7 is a sectional view on the line 'I-l of Figure 6;
Figure 8 is a detailed fragmentary sectional view of a modified form of the invention; and
Figure 9 is an elevational view of a bristle tuft used with the modification shown in Figure 8.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, the reference numeral It designates the brush body having the circular flat head Il, and elongated flat handle I2 formed integral therewith. The
inner face of the head I I is provided with a central circular depression I3 which is provided at its outer inner periphery with threads I4 to threadably engage the threads I5 on the reduced portion I6 of the circular plate or bristle tuft holder I'I. The holder Il is provided with a portion I8 of greater circumference than the portion I6, forming an annular shoulder I9 which engages the inner face of the head II about the depression I3 to limit the inward movement of the holder I 1 to form a chamber 2U within the head II. The outer face of the head II is provided With an opening 2| which communicates with the chamber 20, and a soft rubber washer 22 is mounted in the opening 2I.
The holder I'I is provided with concentric rows of relatively spaced truncated conical openings 23 which are adapted to receive the similarly shaped plugs 24 carrying the bristle tufts 25, and each plug is provided with a central bore 26 which is centrally positioned with respect to the bristle tufts 25. Concentric with and intermediate of the openings 23 are openings 21, and the bore 26 permits cleaning of the inside of the bristle tufts and the openings 2l permit cleaning of th-e outside of the bristle tufts.
In Figures 8 and 9 the holder I 1 is provided with threaded bores 28 to receive the threaded inserts 29 having truncated conical shaped openings 30 to receive the plugs 24. Thus the inserts can be removed and the bristle tufts removed from the inserts as desired.
In either instance, the rubber washer 22 is placed on the end of a water faucet and thc water turned on to enter the chamber 2D, and be distributed around and internally thereof for washing the bristle tufts.
The bristle tufts are removable for individual cleaning thereof or replacement as desired.
There has thus been provided a brush which can be thoroughly cleaned, making a thoroughly sanitary brush.
It is believed that from the foregoing description, the structure and operation of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to, provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A brush of the character described, comprising a body portion having an integral circular plate head and an elongate flat solid handle portion, a central depression in the inner face of said head, a central opening in the outer face of said head communicating with said depression, a circular plate member threadably secured to said head within said depression, an annular shoulder on the outer marginal edge of said plate member, said shoulder adapted to engage the inner face of the head, to limit the movement of said plate member to form said central depression as a chamber within the head, said centrai opening in the outer face of said head being connected with said chamber, and sealing means about said central opening in the cuter face of said head, truncated conical openings in said cir cular plate member, truncated conical plugs in said truncated conical openings, bristle tufts carried by said plugs, and central bores in said plugs within said tufts.
2. The invention as in claim 1 wherein said truncated conical openings in said plate member are positioned therein in concentric rows which are relatively spaced from each other, and concentric rows of openings are provided in said plate member intermediate of said truncated conical openings.
3. The invention as in claim 1 wherein said plate member is provided with removably threaded inserts, said truncated conical openings being within said threaded inserts to receive said plugs.
