Application October 12, 1945, Serial- No. 621,976
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in apparatus for use in bathing babies and more particularly to the provision of a chest of drawers inwhich the'babys clothing and other equipment may be stored together with a foldable table supported atone side of the chest of drawersand .on which the baby may be supported while being bathed.
An important object of thepresent invention is to provide meansfor swingably mounting certain of the drawers to provide access thereto and arranging the drawers whereby the same may all be maintained in open position to afford access to=-the contents thereof.
A- still further, object of the invention is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cabinet with the drawers extended.
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Figure 3 is a front elevational view showing the drawers in closed position, and with the table in extended unfolded position.
Figure 4 is a side elevational view.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary view in elevation showing the support for the inner edge of the table.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary top plan View showing theatable in "folded position.
Figure 7 is a vertical sectional view .of the wash basin holder.
Figure 8 is a detail for the hinged connection for the inner end of the table.
Figures 9 and 10 are perspective views of the releasable supporting bracket for the inner end of the table.
Figure 11 is a fragmentary elevational view of the hinged end of the table.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a chest generally and which includes a pair of rear legs 6 which extend throughout the height of the chest and to which the rear edges of an upper stationary tray 1 and a; lower stationary tray 8 are secured both lfllaim. (Cl. 31 -2- 201) trays being of box-like form. The. front; edge .of
the lower stationary tray 8 is supported on a.
pair of front legs 9.
An upper intermediate drawer l0 and a lower intermediate drawer H are positioned between the drawers I and B, the drawer It] being hinged.
' of the legs 6 whereby the drawersv l0 and Il may swing horizontally toward opposite sides of the chest into anopen position as indicated in Figure -1 of the drawings, to expose the contents of the lower stationary tray 8 as well as the intermediate drawers l0 and II.
The upper stationary tray 1 is provided with a stationary top I4 at the rear portion thereof and to the front edge of which is hinged a cover I5 for vertical swingin movement to thereby afford access to the contents of the upper tray 1. The hinged cover [5 is adapted to fold rearwardly upon the stationary top 14 as indicated by the dotted lines in Figure 4 of the drawings.
A table or shelf I6 has one corner hinged as at ll to one side of the upper tray 1 adjacent its rear edge for downward swinging movement of the table. To the underside of the table l6 adjacent its other inner corner is secured a bracket l8 in which a catch [9 is slidably mounted and having a downturned tongue 20 at its inner end adapted for engagement in a keeper socket 2! secured to the adjacent side of the tray 1 whereby to support the front edge of the table in its raised position.
of the bolts and wing nuts 23 connecting the sections of the leg to each other.
To the frontof the upper stationary tray 1 is secured a horizontal U-shaped bracket 24 and in which is pivotally mounted a vertical pin 25 on the inner end of a horizontal arm 26 and to the outer end of which is suitably secured a'ring 21 for engaging under the flange 28 of a wash basin 29 to support the basin for horizontal swinging movement.
To the side of the upper tray 1 opposite from the table I6 is secured a conventional form of towel rack 30.
When the device is not in use the hinged lid l is closed, the drawers II] and H are swung inwardly into the position as shown in Figure 3, the leg 22 folded upwardly against the underside of the table is and the table swung downwardly at its front edge. The trays I, 8 and drawers I0, II are then arranged in superposed relation, one closing the other.
When the device is placed in use the table I6 is swung upwardly and supported at its front edge by the folding leg 22 and a baby may then be bathed on the table. The drawers l0 and II are swung toward opposite sides as shown in Figure 1 into their open position and which also uncovers the lower stationary tray 8. The upper drawer may be swung under the table l6 into open extended out-of-the-way position but spaced below said table for quick access to the top thereof by a person bathing a baby on the table.
Any suitable latch means may be provided for securing the drawers in a closed position if desired. i
In View of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary. v
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully compre- 4 hended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A bath cabinet for a baby comprising a chest including a stationary tray having a top adapted to be opened and closed, a table extending from one side of the tray flush with the top when said top is closed to form an extension of said top for bathing a baby thereon, and a drawer in said chest beneath said tra closed by the tray and pivotally mounted for horizontal swinging out of said chest under said table, said tray spacing the drawer when swung under the table below said table for access to the top of the drawer by a person bathing a. baby on the table.
