device. whi h ma be rt -thabl lamped o, a handle such as a toothbrush handle or the like.
Another; object. of; this invention, in accordance with the foregoing object, resides in the provision of a tongue-scraping'device having an improved. tongue scrapingedge.
A further object of this invention,- inaccordance with the foregoing. objectresides in the provision for a tongue-scraping device having a tongue-cleansing edge.
An. important. feature of this. invention resides in the. provision. for channel-shaped fingers attachedto said tongue-scrapingidevice, which will frictionally. engage" the handle of:- a toothbrush, or. the like.
An. additional. feature of thislinvention reside in the provision for a serrated blade, providing an improved tongue-scraping edge.
Yet another feature of this invention resides in the provision for a smooth edge on the blade, in addition to said serrated edge, the smooth edge providing an improved tongue-cleansing edge.
These, together with various other ancillary features and objects which will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this device, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated by way of example only in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the device, showing the tongue scraper attached to the handle of a toothbrush;
Figure 2 is a templet from which the preferred embodiment of the tongue-scraping device may be formed;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane 3--3 of Figure 1, showing the details of the construction of the mounting means;
Figure 4 is a front elevational view of the improved tongue-scraping device attached to a toothbrush, showing the details of the serrated edge;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a second embodiment; and
Figure 6 is a vertical sectional view of the second embodiment of the device, taken substantially on the plane 68 of Figure 5.
Referring, now, more! particularly. to the ac; companying drawings, wherein, like numerals designate similar parts, throughout the various views, the preferred. embodiment of the device isdesignated generally by the numeral In, the device being de'tachably mountable on a toothbrush indicatedgenerally. by the numeral I2..
The preferred embodiment of v the ,device consists of ablade l4having a serrated edge [6 and a sinooth edge, I8, A, pair of. arms. 20v are terminally, attached to said blade. l4, the arms 20 symmetrically, and curvedl y'. extending rear wardlyand inwardly offsaid' blade. Attached to.
each, arm 20, anajmtmuy. spaced from each other arechannel-shaped fingers 22', having. in wardly extending flanges 24, the clamping fingers. 22 being adapted, to receive. the handle of' the.
toothbrush] l2.
Preferably, the. tongue-cleansing. device 10 is formed of agres ili'ent material, so that the rearward lyextending arms20 willlyieldingly bias the channel shaped fingers; 22; into engagement with the tooth rushhandle l2,.the. inwardlyeXtending flanges 2T of the channel-shaped member 22 resiliently embracing the sides of the toothbrush l2.
The second embodiment of the invention has a similar transversely mounted blade M, with a serrated edge I6, and also has channel-shaped fingers 22, providing means for attaching the tongue-scraping device of the second embodiment to the handle of a toothbrush. The second embodiment, however, has a trapezoidal plate 26 which joins the tongue-scraping blade I4 to the clamping fingers 22, the trapezoidal plate 26 having a rearward rectangular extension 28, the rectangular extension 28 joining the inwardly turned flanges 24 of the fingers 22, and being formed integral therewith. As best shown in Figure 6 of the drawing, the plate 26 includes marginal reinforcing flanges having one end in abutting engagement with the blade [4. An annular bore 30 is provided in the rectangular extension 28 so as to coincide with an annular bore 32 in the toothbrush l2, the latter being generally provided in toothbrushes so as to furnish means for hanging toothbrushes upon a hook or the like. It can thus be seen that the tonguescraping device H] in no way interferes with the hanging of the toothbrush by a hook through an aperture, such as 32 in the handle of the toothbrush I2.
From the foregoing description, it is believed that the utility and manner of operation of the device will be apparent, the serrated edge I6,
upon the impartation of suitable motion to it, serving to buff the tongue, and the smooth edge I8 providing means for removing particles from and cleaning the tongue after it has been buffed.
Obviously, various equivalents and arrangements may be resorted to within the spirit of my invention, and I do not desire to limit myself to the exact construction shown and described, but to avail myself of any modification formed within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A tongue scraper comprising a handle, channel-shaped fingers providing clamping means for detachably securing said scraper to said handle, a blade on said tongue scraper, a trapezoidal plate joining said blade to said fingers, said plate having depending flanged edges reinforcing said plate.
2. A tongue scraper comprising a pair of elongated channel members disposed in registry with each other, a web connecting the corresponding legs of said channel members, said web having an extension thereon projecting outwardly of one end of said channel members, said extension having side edges which diverge relative to each other from said channel members, flanges on said diverging side edges reinforcing said extension, and a blade depending from the end of said extension remote from said channel members.
3. A tongue scraper comprising a pair of elongated channel members disposed in registry with each other, a web connecting the corresponding legs of said channel members, said web having an extension thereon projecting outwardly of one end of said channel members, said extension having side edges which diverge relative to each other from said channel members, flanges on said diverging side edges reinforcing said extension, and a blade depending from the end of said extension remote from said channel members, said blade abutting the ends of said flanges.
4. A tongue scraper comprising a. pair of elongated channel members disposed in registry with each other, a web connecting the corresponding legs of said channel members, said web having an extension thereon projecting outwardly of one end of said channel members, said extension having side edges which diverge relative to each other from said channel members, flanges on said diverging side edges reinforcing said extension, and a blade depending from the end of said extension remote from said channel members, said flanges each being formed integral with the leg of said channel members which is spaced from said web.
5. The combination of claim 2 wherein said web has an aperture therein, a handle disposed in said channel members, said handle having an opening therein disposed in registry with the aperture in said web.
6. A tongue scraper comprising a pair of elongated channel members disposed in registry with each other, a web comiecting the corresponding legs of said channel members, said web having an extension thereon projecting outwardly of one end of said channel members, said extension having side edges which diverge relative to each other from said channel members, flanges on said diverging side edges reinforcing said extension, and a blade depending from the end of said extension remote from said channel members, the lower edge of said blade being serrated.
