IMPROVEMENT IN JEWELRY.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 26,678, dated January 3, 1860.

A To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J EAN Jos. HUBER, of the city of Geneva, canton of Geneva, Switzerland, have invented certain improvements in the manufacture of all kinds of jewelry, such as brooches, breast and cravat pins, bracelets, rings, diadems, necklaces, and other ornaments; and I hereby declare that the following is a clear and exact description of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, illustrating the same.

My invention consists in giving to the sev-A figuration. Said rings, leaves, or pieces may be cut in festoons, engraved, chased, enameled, set with stones, or otherwise ornamented, and are pivoted upon buttons, stems, or any other part constituting the nucleus thereof, by means of screws, pins, springs, or any other known device. The article thus produced will have the several pieces movable, so that the aspect and appearance of the jewelry may be changed and varied at pleasure and infinitely without the aid or assistance of a jeweler.

In the annexed drawings, Figures 1 to 9 represent, as an example, a breastpin or brooch constructed according to my invention, in its several of the many aspects or modications of which the same is susceptible.

A mere inspection of the drawings will be sufficient to explain both the nature and object of my invention, and its applicability to other kinds of jewelry will be readily perceived.

I would here observe that I do not claim hinging lids or plates inta manner suchjas is customary to apply to rings or bracelets when the same contain hair, portraits, or any other thing that is incased and thereby intended to be concealed, the object of my invention be-` ing, as above stated, the production of changes 1 in the appearance of a jewel by means of the j adj ustability of the pieces of which itis composed, and therefore I do not confine my invention to the modes above set forth of adj usting the severalpieces, as the same object j may be eected by other means than raising and lowering the leaves or pieces upon abutton or stem. Thus I also use pieces made ,of

a different form, capable of moving from the right to the left, or vice versa; or else slide `or tip or swing upon gudgeons from the right to the left or again turn over, so as to present different faces at pleasure. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent, is

Forming articles of jewelry of a series of s movable and adjustable pieces, so that the aspect and appearance of the said articles may be changed at pleasure,substantially as set forth.
