United States Patent AUTOMATIC SHAVING BRUSH HEAD Alfred B. Miller, Rosedale, Queens County, N. Y.
Application February 17, 1954, Serial N 0. 410,834
1 Claim. (Cl. 222-394) This invention relates to a dispensing device for conducting shaving soap from an ordinary container to a brush, the invention being preferably termed an automatic shaving brush head.
One important object of this invention is to provide an attachable head for soap containers, whereby contents emitted from the container will be directed to a shaving brush.
A second important object of the invention is to provide a device of this description whereby, upon application of the head, soap will be ejected from the ordinary soap container automatically.
A third important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character whereby a brush carrying element may be detachably connected to the top of an ordinary container having a supply of soap and wherein an element may be operated to actuate the soap dispensing nozzle of the container.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts, and:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the upper part of a soap container with the invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with the brush carrying device shown in section.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a detailed view of the nozzle actuating means used in this invention.
In the invention as here illustrated there is shown a container adapted to supply lather for shaving through a discharge nozzle 11, which acts, when depressed, to permit ejection of shaving lather for use by the person proposing to shave himself. These containers are well known on the general market with this nozzle arrangement. When the nozzle 11 has been depressed the shaving lather is ejected from the tube or nozzle 11 on to the fingers of the user. He then, in the present old manner, applies this finger-carried lather to his face and proceeds with the shaving.
In the present invention the device is intended to direct shaving lather from the nozzle 11 within the central part of a brush without the intervention of the fingers at all. In the type of the common container 10 herein shown, there is provided on its edge an annular flange 12 concentric to the tube or nozzle 11.
The present invention consists of a body 13 having a reduced lower end 14 carrying washer member 15 which fits in the annular flange 12. The member 13 has a bore 16 extending therethrough. In this bore is mounted a push button plunger 17 having a stem 18a upon which is mounted a reduced lower end 18 provided with an operating head or operator 19 fitting loosely in the bore 16.
The head or operator 19 has a conical recess 20 in its bottom and from this recess extends radial ejection passages 21. From the body 13 extends a lateral portion 22 socketed as at 23 (Fig. 3) to contain a shaving brush 24. A passage 25 leads from the bore 16 to the central part of the shaving brush. In the utilization of the invention the reduced end 14 with its screw threads 15 is fitted tightly onto flange 12 of the container 10. At this time the plunger 17 projects above the body 13 and the head 19 rests loosely on top of the nozzle 11. When it is desired to obtain a supply of shaving lather from the container 10, the plunger 17 is depressed and this in turn depresses the nozzle 11, whereupon shaving lather is ejected from thecontainer 10 into the recess 20 and from there passes through the passages 21 into the bore 16. From the bore 16 this lather flows through the passage 25 to the center of the brush 24, and then the lather may be applied directly to the face of the person using the device without the use of the fingers when spreading or distributing the lather over the persons face.
As shown in Figure 2, the plunger 17 carries a collar 26, the upper end of the bore 16 being enlarged to accommodate this collar. Between the collar 26 and the bottom of the enlarged portion, there is provided a spring 27 which normally holds the plunger raised.
In the upper end of body 13 is fixedly secured a washer 26a, against which movable collar 26 bears.
A closed chemically heated tube 28 is provided for heating the lather, if desired, and is movable into passage 16 by manual pressure on an extending push button 28.
It is to be noted that by using my invention, hands filled with slimy, sticky lather soap are eliminated. My automatic shaving brush head saves shaving lather due to the pressure button regulator. It eliminates hands being used to lather the face and produces a better rubbingin job. Towels are not needed because the users hands are not messy. It saves time because old-fashioned shaving jugs and separate shaving brushes are not used.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is wished to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
What is claimed is:
In a dispensing cap for an automatic lather dispensing device adapted to dispense lather directly into a brush, said cap being adapted to engage in hermetically sealed relation a container for shaving-lather under pressure, said cap having a vertical bore therein, a movable nozzle communicating said bore with said container, an operator in said vertical bore, said operator including a stem having a conical recess in its lower end and radial passages extending from said recess, said stem having a circumferential recess in said bore into which said radial passages extend, a push button on said operator, a right angle passage in said cap, and depression of said operator causing extrusion of said lather through said right angle passage.
