TOOTHBRUSH AND TOOTH POWDER KIT TOOTHBRUSH POWDER FOUNTAIN April 7, 1959 Filed April 12, 1956 IN EN TOR.
1 States Patent TOOTHBRUSH AND TOOTH POWDER KIT-- TOOTHBRUSH POWDER FOUNTAIN This invention relates 'to'toothbrush and tooth' powder its.
- It is an object of the present invention to provide a toothbrush and tooth powder kit resembling in external appearanceafountain pen, y I H t It is amtaerrgner the present invention to provide a toothbrush and tooth powder kit of the above type which includes a fountain pen simulating casing withinth'e Writing end of whichis' removably positioned adextendible toothbrusnand within the other end of which is housed a supply of tooth powder.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a toothbrush and tooth powder kit of the above type which includes novel means for dispensing the tooth powder onto the brush from the center of the casing.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a toothbrush and tooth powder kit bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention shown when not in use;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view shown partly in elevation taken along the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view shown partly in elevation of the extendible toothbrush with the brush in the inoperative position;
Fig. 4 is a side view shown partly in section of the eitendible toothbrush with the brush in the operative position;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of the center of the invention showing the dispensing ring in the closed position; and
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 but showing the dispensing ring in the open, or dispensing, position.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, 10 represents a hollow casing having an end closure 11 and simulating in appearance the cover of a conventional mountain pen, being provided with a mountain pen clip 12, substantially as illustrated.
The other end of the casing 10 is open and is integrally formed with the reduced cylindrical sleeve 13 which is internally threaded for a purpose which will hereinafter become clear, the sleeve 13 being provided with a rectangular opening 14 therethrough (Fig. 5). A baflie 15 is secured to the inside of the sleeve 13 above the opening 14.
A hollow, frusto-conical casing 16 resembling the body portion of a fountain pen is open at the smaller end thereof and is integrally formed at its other end with the reduced externally threaded closure 17 adapted to be screwed into the internally threaded sleeve 13. The casing 16 adjacent the small open end thereof is substanice tially cylindrical, as at 18. The upper end of the externally threaded portion 17 is provided with the frustoconical bore 18' which is cut away at one side and is adapted to deliver the contents of the casing 10 to the opening 14, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, as at 19. As shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the reduced sleeve 13 forms with the casing 10 a shoulder 20 while the reduced externally threaded closure 17 forms with the casing 16 the shoulder 21 a sealing member 22 having acylindrical inside bore and a hexagonal'outer surface is rotatably, mounted on the sleeve 13 intermediate the shoulders 20 and 21. The sealing member 22 is provided at one side with a rectangular opening 23 therethrough adapted to be aligned with the opening 14 when it is desired to dispense the contents of the casing 10, which' latter is'filled with tooth powder, not shown. Upon unscrewing the body portion 16 from the cap portion 10, it will be readily apparent that the sealing member 22 may be easily removed from the sleeve 13. p 1 An extendible toothbrush is provided and includes the frusto-conical handle 24, the head portion 25 and the bristles 26. The hollow-casing is provided for the handle 24 and includes the cylindrical portion 27 and the frusto, conical portion: 28. The frusto conical portion 28 is open at its smaller end and slidably receives therethrough the frusto conical handle 24, firmly engaging the en'- larged end of the latter when in the extended position as will be obvious. These frusto-conical surfaces will, however, permit the retraction of the brush to the inoperative position of Fig. 3. The other end of the hollow casing 27 is provided with a hemispherical closure 29 having the aeration opening 30. The frusto-conical portion 28 is adapted to be received within the body 16 when the brush is retracted, with the cylindrical portion 27 thereof frictionally engaging the cylindrical portion 18 of the latter, as shown in Fig. 2. The body 16 provides clearance for the bristles 26 and is provided with the openings 31 for aerating the same when not in use.
The baffle 15 positioned at the top of the externally threaded portion 17 above the flow opening 14 and sleeve 13 controls the speed and quantity of the powder flowing through.
In operation, the extendible toothbrush is first pulled out from the body casing 10 by grasping the cylindrical portion 27 and pulling the same apart. The handle 24 is then pulled out to the extended position in the casing 28 to obtain the full length thereof. The sealing 22 is then rotated to the position of Fig. 6 to bring the opening 23 thereof into alignment with the opening 14 of the sleeve 13. The casing 10 containing the tooth powder is then tilted slightly with the openings above the bristles 26 whereupon after a few shakes the brush is ready for use. Before brushing the teeth, the seal ring 22 is again returned to the closed position. After brushing, the brush is cleaned and dried and returned to the retracted position and then replaced into the body 16. To fill the reservoir 10, the body portion is unscrewed from the same and the reservoir is inverted after removing the seal ring 22 therefrom. The reservoir is then filled with tooth powder through the opening 14 when in the inverted position, whereupon the seal ring 22 is returned and the body portion 16 again screwed into the reservoir 10. The seal ring 22 is then rotated to the closed position.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
