1 Claim. (Cl. 15--131.1)
The' present invention relates to new and useful improvements in barbers hair dusting brushes and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character which is adapted to contain a supply of the usual powder to be dispensed as needed.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a fountain barbers brush of the character described comprising novel means for controlling the discharge of the powder.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a fountain barbers brush of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light weight, sanitary and which may be manufactured at low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a View in side elevation of a brush constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure l;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional View substantially similar to Figure 2 but showing the powder control valve in open position;
Figure 4 is an enlarged view in horizontal section through an intermediate portion of the device, taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 1; and
Figure 5 is an enlarged View in horizontal section, taken substantially on the line 5 5 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention Which has been illustrated comprises a cylindrical tubular handle 6 of plastic, metal or other suitable material. The handle 6 is for the reception of powder, as indicated at 7. The upper end of the handle 6 is closed by a removable screw plug 8 which permits said handle to be loaded.
The lower end portion of the handle 6 comprises a substantially frusto-conical powder discharge tube or passage 9 providing a shoulder or seat 10. A head 11 is removably mounted on the lower end portion of the handle 6. The head 11 includes a cap 12 which is threaded on the tubular handle 6. Bristles 13 are embedded in the cap 12. The cap 12 is provided with a multiplicity of openings or perforations 14 for discharging the powder 7 among the bristles 13. A gasket or sealing ring 15 is provided for preventing leakage between the cap 12 and the handle 6.
Mounted for operation in the handle 6 is a rod or stem 16. Mounted on one end of the stem 16 is a valve 17 which is engageable with Vthe seat for closing the discharge passage 9. The stem 16 includes an angularly bent upper end portion 18 which i-'s `operable in a longitudinal slot 19 provided therefor in the handle 6. An operating knob or button 20 ismounted on thelend portion 18 of the' stem 16 and slidable on the handle 6j. Also iixed on the end portion 18 of the stem 16 and operable in the handle 6 is a plate 21 which keeps the slot 19 closed at all times.
It is thought that the use of the brush will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, with lthe valve 17 in closed position on the seat 10 as shown in Figure 2 of the drawing the discharge of the powder 7 from the tubular handle 6 is prevented. When the powder is to be dispensed the valve 17 is moved to open position (see Figure 3) through the medium of the pushbutton 20. It will be noted that the construction and arrangement is such that the valve may be opened and closed with the thumb of the hand which grips the handle 6. As hereinbefore stated, the plate 21 keeps the slot 19 closed at all times, said plate travelling with the stem 16. With the valve 17 open the powder flows through the discharge passage 9 and the perforations 14 into the bristles 13 in an obvious manner. When the pushbutton 20 is actuated the elements 16 and 17 function as agitators for loosening and preventing the powder 7 from clogging. The invention contemplates the provision of two of the removable head units 11, permitting one to be kept in the usual sterilizer while the other is in use. If desired, the two heads may be distinctively colored.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A barbers fountain powder brush comprising a tubular handle for the reception of the powder, said handle having a longitudinal slot therein, a frusto-conical discharge tube projecting into the handle from one end portion thereof and having its small end spaced concentrically therefrom, a cap threaded on said one end portion of said handle having perforations therein communicating with the discharge tube, bristles on said cap, a stem operable in the handle and including an angularly extending end portion operable in the slot, an actuating button on said angularly extending end portion of said stern slidable longitudinally on the periphery of the handle, a valve on the other end of said stem seatable on said small end of said discharge tube for controlling the discharge of the powder, and an elongated plate of arcuate cross-section mounted on said angularly extending end portion of said stern and operable in the handle and slidable longitudinally on the inner surface thereof for closing the slot and for frictionally securing the Valve in adjusted position in cooperation with the button.
