Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN MIDDLETON, OF NEW' YORK, N. Y.
WINDOW-WASHER.
Speccation of Letters Patent No. 29,805, dated August 28, 1860.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MIDDLETON, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and Improved IVindow-Vasher; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this speciication, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure l is a vertical section of my invention; Figs. 2, 3, 4L, and 5 are transverse sections as designated.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation by the aid of the drawings.
A is the handle, and B a brush on the end thereof. On the back of B I mount a cylin der C with the upper end closed and communicating with the front or face of the brush B by means of an opening or port D. IVithin the cylinder C, I place a piston E of any proper construction which is fixed upon a rod G which extends down along a groove in the side of the handle A, as represented, and is fixed to a supplementalhandle M. From M another rod H extends upward along a groove on the other side of A, and
serves as a guide to steady the movement of NI.
In operating my improved window of water, the handle M is drawn out, and the upper portion of the cylinder is thus filled with water, soapsuds, or other proper fluid, which Hows in through the aperture D. Then on applying the brush to the window friction may be made thereon in the ordinary manner, and the brush may, when desired, be supplied with additional moisture by thrusting up the supplemental handle, M, either to its full extent or to such part thereof as may be necessary. When the window has been sufficiently rubbed, the brush may be held in front at a little distance, and the handle M forced up rapidly, which will cause the water to spurt from the opening D, and rinse the glass.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The window washer herein described as a new article of manufacture, the same consisting of a brush B, a reservoir of changeable capacity, C, on or near the same level as B, the opening D, between C and the front of B, aud the rod G or its equivalent, whereby C is made to change its capacity, substantially as and for the purposes herein Set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name in presence of two subscribing. witnesses.
