(Cl. 15-524) This invention relates to the cleaning of walls and floors of various types of material including wood, masonry, tile and the like, and to equipment by which water and cleaning solution can be applied and the surfaces scrubbed to clean the same.

The invention relates particularly to a multipurpose brush or scrubber which can be attached to a conventional hose and to the provision of means for supplying a cleaning solution to such brush or scrubber and by which cleaning solution and water can be supplied and the surfaces scrubbed to clean the same.

In the construction industry walls and floors are scrubbed with stiff brushes by hand, such brushes being periodically dipped in a cleaning solution and water is discharged onto the area being cleaned. This operation is laborious, time consuming and requires excessive manpower.

It is an object of the invention to streamline the process of Washing by providing a relatively simple and inexpensive multipurpose scrubber in which the water hose, the hose for the cleaning solution and the brush are combined in a single unit which can be readily operated by a single individual performing the washing operation efliciently and in a minimum of time.

Another object of the invention is to provide a multipurpose scrubber including a source of supply for a cleaning solution under pressure, a discharge hose, a spray nozzle, a brush in operative proximity to the latter, and means for controlling the cleaning solution and water as well as provision of a handle for guiding and operating the brush.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein:

FIG. 4, a perspective of a spring clip for holding certain of the parts in assembled relation.

Briefly stated, the invention comprises a handle in the form of a relatively rigid pipe with a portion bent angularly and adapted to have a brush clamped thereon, the pipe having a connection at one end for attachment to a water hose and a laterally disposed discharge slot adjacent its opposite end through which water can be discharged subject to a lever operated control valve adjacent the Water hose connection. A brush is mounted in operative relation to the discharge slot in the pipe, the mounting being in any desired manner as, for example, by a U-clamp extending around the angular portion of the handle forming pipe. The angular portion of the pipe is for the convenience of the operator to permit the brush to be used on upright walls, horizontal floors or surfaces of other angles. 'If desired, a cleaning solution under pressure may be provided from a source of supply through a hose and a discharge pipe with a control valve for controlling discharge through a nozzle on the outer end of the same, which nozzle is fixed to the handle forming pipe by means of a spring clip. Thus an operator by gripping the handle forming pipe can scrub a wall, floor or other surface applying cleaning solution to such surface and then flushing such surface with water.

With continued reference to the drawing, a handle 3,024,487 Patented Mar. 13, 1962 forming relatively rigid pipe 10 has an angular portion 11, such pipe having external screw threads 12 and 13 on its rear and forward ends respectively and an internally threaded cap 14 engaged with the threads 13 to form a closure for the end of the pipe.

The pipe is provided at its forward end with a spray orifice in the form of a laterally disposed slot 15 through which water under pressure may be sprayed at right angles to the axis of the angular portion 11 of the pipe.

In order to scrub the surface on which the water is sprayed through the slot or orifice 15, a brush 16 is provided, such brush having a back 17 attached to the same by means of spaced screws 18, such back being in the form of a hollow shell having a pair of openings 19 through which are received the externally threaded ends 20 of a U-clamp 21, such threaded ends receiving thereon a pair of washers 22 and nuts 23 for fastening the U- clamp in position about the angular portion 11 of the handle forming pipe and against an intermediate saddle member or wedge 24.

By gripping the handle forming pipe 10 the brush may be applied to the surface to be cleaned and water may be supplied to such surface through the pipe 10 from a source of supply such as a hose 25 and a coupling 26 attached to the threaded end of a nipple 27 connected to a valve 28, flow through which is controlled by an operating lever 29.

In order to supply cleaning solution a tube 30 may extend to a container for such solution under pressure with such tube connected by a coupling 31 with an externally threaded end of a nipple or short pipe section 32, the other threaded end of which is connected to a valve 33 subject to a control lever 34 for controlling fluid through a tube 35 and a spray nozzle 36 attached to the outer end of the handle forming pipe 10 by means of a spring clip 37, the pipe 35 also being fastened to the handle forming pipe 10 by means of one or more spring clips or clamps 38.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that a device is provided by which floors and walls can be readily cleaned including by scrubbing, by the application of a cleaning solution, and clear water flushing. It will also be readily understood that the device can be readily used and the operation easily accomplished by a lone workman with a minimum of effort and in a minimum of time.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and therefore the invention is not limited by that which is illustrated in the drawing and described in the specification, but only as indicated in the accompanying claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A multipurpose scrubber comprising an elongated pipe forming a hollow handle, said pipe having a bend near one end whereby the end portion of the pipe is disposed less than degrees from the main portion of the pipe and with such end portion having a lateral orifice through which water can be discharged onto a surface to be cleaned, a scrub brush, a generally U-shaped clamp fastening said brush to said pipe for longitudinal and to tational adjustment, and means for supplying liquid for cleaning through said pipe and for controlling subject to the action of the operator the flow through said pipe.

2. The structure of claim 1 having an additional line for the supply of cleaning solution carried by said pipe on said hollow handle and having a discharge nozzle adjacent said scrub brush whereby both water and cleaning solution can be supplied during the use of said brush.
