MULTI-APPLICATOR FOR LIQUID COSMETIC Filed Dec. 22, 196i 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR. EVA GAZDl K United States Patent ce 3,132,653 MULTI-APPLICATOR FOR LIQUID COSMETIC Eva Gazdik, Kingsbery Road, Zephyr Cove, Nev.
Filed Dec. 22, 1961, Ser. No. 161,455 2 Claims. (Cl. 13285) This invention concerns a kit including a liquid cosmetic case, applicator and containers of liquid cosmetics.
According to the invention there is provided a plastic case in which are a p'lua-rlity of tubular containers of liquid cosmetics. The cosmetic containers surround a central container of a suitable cosmetic solvent or detergent. -In the central container is removably disposed a brush having bristles immersed in the solvent. The brush shaft or shank is attached to an external cap for the entire cosmetic case. The individual cosmetic containers are slid-ably disposed in the case. Flexible stoppers are provided for the containers. These stoppers can be removed for inserting the brush into the containers. The stoppers are slit so that the brush can be inserted through the stoppers into the containers.
It is therefore a principal object of the invention to provide a convenient case for dispensing liquid cosmetics from a plurality of cosmetic containers in the case.
A further object is to provide a case having cosmetic containers slidab-ly disposed in the case, the containers being provided with slit, resilient stoppers to receive a brush.
Another object is to provide a case and cosmetic containers as described, wherein the-brush is normally diposed in a central container of a cosmetic solvent, the case having a cap which serves as a handle for the brush.
For further comprehension or the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of the case in open position showing the cap, brush, 'case' and containers embodying the invention.
FIG. 2 is a side elevational view of the case in closed position.
FIG. 3 is -a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 33 of FIG. 2.
FIG 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 44 of FIG. 2.
FIGS. 5 and 6 are exploded perspective views of liquid containers according to the invention.
Referring to FIGS. l4, there is shown a case 10 which may be cylindrical or polygonal in forrn. The case 10 is here shown hexagonal in cross section. The case has flat, rectangular sides or walls 12, a closed bottom 14 and open top. The top may be closed by a cap- 16 which has a hexagonal outer side or top 17 and a peripheral skirt 18 which is hexagonal in cross section and which fits frictionally on the open end of the case. A plurality of tubular polygonal containers 29 are peripherally arranged around the interior of the case. Each container 20, as clearly shown in FIGS. 4 and 6, has one outer side 21 slidably abutting the inner side of one of the side walls 12 of the case. Adjacent sides 22 of the containers sl-idably abut the sides 22 :of adjacent containers 20. The sides 22 extend radially inward from the corners 24 of the case. Inner narrow sides 25 of the containers slidably abut outer sides 26 of a polygonal container 30. This container 30 is axially located inside the case and is shown to best advantage in FIGS. 3 and 5.
Containers 20 have stoppers 32 formed of resilient sponge rubber or plastic material. The stoppers have necks 33 which are polygonal and fit snugly inside the 3,132,653 Patented May 12, 1964 in which the pin is located to advance the adjacentcontainer partially out of the case, asshown in FIG. 1. This will fully expose the stopper 32 of the container so that it can be removed if required. V 7
"Each stopper 32 has a slit 39 normally closed to seal the container on which the stopper is seated. This slit is exposed at the top of the stopper.
The central container 30 has a closed bottom 31 and open top. A hexagonal stopper 41 closes this container.
This stopper is made of flexible sponge rubber or plastic. The-stopper has a slitr42 extending axially therethrough. The stopper has a neck extension 44 snugly'fitted in the open top of the container 30, j
A brush 45 is provided for applying the liquid cosmetics 46 which fill each of the containers 20. The brush has a cylindrical, rod-like shank or shaft 48 which can be inserted through the slit 42 of stopper 4 1. The free distal end of the shank has bristles 49'thereon immersed in a liquid cosmetic solvent 50 to that the bristles are kept in a sofit, moistand clean condition. The outer end of the shank may beintegrally formed with or attached to the center of the inner side 17' of the cap 16. The brush thus extends axially and perpendicularly to flat top 17 of the cap.
When the cap 16 is removed from the case 10, the brush is extracted from contanier 30. The bristles 49 are wiped by the resilient stopper as the bristles pass out of slit 42.
The shank of the brush can then be inserted through the slit39 of any one of the stoppers 32 as indicated by dotted lines in FIG. 2. If desired, the selected container 20 can be moved. partially out of the case by manually pushing the button head 37 of pin 36 engaged with the selected container 20. p
The assembly of containers 20 in the case all cooperate to hold the central container 30 inside the case. containers 20 are removed from the case 10 by extracting pins 36 to release the containers 29, then container 3% will remain and it can also be removed. The supply of liquid in any of the containers can be replenished by removing the stopper or by forcing liquid into the container through the slit in the stopper, by a suitable dispensing nozzle.
When a brush loaded with cosmetic is removed from any container 20 through the slit in the stopper 32, the stopper will wipe the bristles, leaving a minimal amount of the cosmetic thereon. This facilitates application since an excessive amount of cosmetic cannot thereby be taken up on the bristles. Also, since the stopper slit closes aiter the brushis removed the remainder of liquid cosmetic in the container cannot spill out. Of course, if a larger amount of liquid is to be taken up on the brush, the stopper 32 can be removed by sliding (the selected container 20 partially out of the case.
The several containers and case are all preferably made of plastic. They may be made of transparent plastic so that the amount and color of the contents may be visible through the walls of the containers. The cosmetics may be lip or face rouge, eye makeup or any other desired cosmetic applicable in liquid or semi-fluid orm.
The invention makes it possible to employ a single brush for applying all cosmetics. The liquid cosmetic solvent in the container 30 will keep the brush in a clean, soft condition ready for instant use when required. If desired, the inner side 17' of the cap top 17 may have a mirror finish to serve as a mirror while the brush is being used to apply cosmetic.
If all While -I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invent-ion, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is: v
