Claims priority, application Japan, June 6, 1964,
1 Claim. (Cl. 15--563) The present invention relates to a pen.
As often observed in a conventional pen, its use in writing is sometimes inconvenienced by the overflow of the ink or its passage from the ink tank to the pen nib being clogged with impurities in it.
It is one object of the present invention to provide a lpen which is simple in its structure and easy to manufacture, but also provides a filter, to screen out all the impurities in the ink and feeds smoothly a suitable quantity of the purified ink only to the pen nib, so that the above mentioned dificulty with the conventional pen may be conpletely overcome. j
With these and other objects in View which will become apparent from the following detailed description, the present invention will be clearly understood in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevation of a pen designed in accordance with the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is an axial section of the pen, the cap being removed; and
FIGURE 3 is a perspective view of the connector.
Referring now to the drawing, and in particular to FIG. 2, when a connector 3 which is provided with an ink guide 2 is pushed into the head of an ink tank 1, the closed ink tank 1 will be opened to allow the ink to be fed away by the ink guide 2, above which is arranged the filter 4 contacting the ink guide 2. Usually the filter 4 is made of felt. But, its material is not necessarily limited to felt only. Anything which is capable of not only screening out the impurities in the ink, but also sucking in an appropriate quantity of the ink through the minute communicating holes in it, so as to smoothly transfer the ink and guide it to reach the pen nib can be used for that purpose.
A pen nib 5 is disposed in front of the filter 4, the pen nib 5 being made of synthetic fibre, acrylonitrile, such as glass fibre. The pen nib 5 has also a minute communicating hole through it, so that it can suck in a suitable amount of purified ink emerging from the filter 4. It is surrounded by a protector 6 to constantly retain its proper shape for easy writing, allowing the pen nib 5 to be changed Whenever required. The ink tank 1 is surrounded by a pen body or pen holder 7, which receives the cap 8. The pen holder 7 is open at one end to form an inner thread 3'. A hollow body 7' having complementary outer thread 7 is threadedly connected with the pen holder 7. The hollow body 7' has a set off widened recess 3 to receive the connector 3 therein. The connector 3 has an axial 3,290,717 Patented Dec. 13, 1966 bore 2' which is adapted to receive the ink guide 2 (FIG. 3). The connector 3 thus serves simultaneously as connecting means between the ink tank 1 and the hollow body 7 Since the pen, according to the present invention, is constructed as above-mentioned, the ink in the tank 1 is fed by the ink guide 2 into the filter 4, where all the impurities in the ink are screened out and only the purified ink is fed through the minute communicating holes in the filter 4 to reach the pen nib 5, which likewise is provided with a minute communicating hole for the ink to be used through it in writing.
Consequently, even if the ink contains some impurities, there is no apprehension that the pen cannot be used for that reason. Only the suitable quantity of the purified ink is constantly supplied to the pen nib 5 for an easy and smooth writing. Besides, the structure of the pen is so simple, that it can be easily manufactured economically to be used for a long time without difficulty. Therefore, it is obvious that the present invention has extensive practical use and the pen according to the present invention has various advantages over the conventional pens.
While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, many modifications thereof can be made by one skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the present invention and the scope of the present invention is determined by the objects and the claims.
I claim:
A pen comprising a pen holder,
a cap receiving said pen holder,
an ink tank disposed inside of said pen holder and having an opening at one end thereof,
a connector sealingly inserted into said open end of said tank,
said connector having an axial bore,
an ink guide immovably secured in said aXial bore and 'closing said bore in said connector,
a hollow body threadedly connected with said pen holder and receiving a filter,
said ink guide projecting into said filter,
said hollow body having a set off recess at its open end and receiving one end of said connector,
a pen nib having a minute bore and received at the free end of said hollow body and projecting into said filter, and
a protector secured to the front end of said hollow body and receiving the front end of said pen nib.
