BOWLING STRUCTURE Filed June 9, 1966 /A/VEA/TO J/M PETQO United States Patent Oce 3,352,027 Patented Jan. 9, 1968 3,362,027 BOWLING STRUCTURE Jim Petrov, 1113 St. Boniface Drive, Carmina, nl. 62206 Filed .lune 9, 1966, Ser. No. 556,490 2 Claims. (Cl. 2-161) The present invention relates generally to the bowling art, and more particularly to a novel bowling glove primarily for the second and third fingers.
There are `available many finger lifts for bowling t assist in ball action and control. Often these are attached interiorly of the finger holes. However, there has long existed the need for a simple finger glove for assisting in obtaining effective ball action and control.
In brief, the present invention comprises a two-linger glove of suitable material which tits on the second and third fingers of the bowling hand. The outer surfaces of the fingers of the glove engaging the inner surfaces of the finger holes are lightly ribbed, the ribbing being at an angle of some thirty to sixty degrees.
Hence, objects of the present invention are to provide a novel bowling glove for the second and third fingers of the bowling hand which is adapted to effectively assist in obtaining improved lball action and control, which can be quickly applied to and removed from the hand, which is automatic in its improvement of the users bowling, which lends protection to the covered fingers, and which otherwise fulfills the objects and advantages sought therefor.
The foregoing and other objects and :advantages are apparent from the following description taken with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a palm view of a bowling glove made in accordance with the teachings of the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a back view thereof;
FIGURE 3 is an enlarged angularly transverse crosssectional view taken on substantially the line 3 3 of FIG- URE l; and
FIGURE 4 is a palm View of the present bowling -glove on the right hand of a bowler, the hand being illustrated by dotted lines.
Referring to the drawings more particularly by reference numerals, indicates generally a bowling glove incorporating the principles of the present invention which includes a wrist portion 12, a second nger portion 14, a third finger portion 16 an intermediate palm portion 18, and an intermediate back portion 20. Air holes may be provided in the back portion Ztl. An opening 22 is provided through which the thumb and index finger extend and an opening 24 is included through which the little finger extends. If desired, the opening 22 may be separated by an integral portion adjacent the thumb to provide thumb and index finger openings.
Parallel relatively closely spaced low ribs 26 are formed on the outer surface of the inside part of each of the finger portions 14 and 16. The ribs 26 are disposed angularly outwardly from left to right, viewing the right-hand glove illustrated. The angle of approximately twenty-five ldegrees off the longitudinal axis of the finger portions illustrated in FIGURE 1 has been found to be highly effective for the gloves intended purpose. This `angle may be varied to increase or decrease that shown, although the range between some twenty and seventy degrees off the said longitudinal axis is effective. For the left hand, the ribs extend angularly outwardly from right to left.
Highly effective test gloves made in accordance with the present disclosure are of rubber. Other suitable materials may be employed. It is desirable that the glove 10 be of 4a material which will permit the fingers some feel theret-hrough into engagement with the bowling ball. In addition, the material should permit the ribs to give a little drag without hanging as the lingers come out of the finger holes of the ball von the delivery. The ribs 26 are relatively closely spaced and are of low height, as shown, which avoids the effect or feeling of humps.
The present glove also lends protection to the lsecond and third fingers, materially reducing hardening and callousing.
The present `bowling help has been designated a glove, but it is to be understood the glove encompasses strap structures and other retainers used in bowling.
It is apparent that there has been provided a bowling glove which fulfills the objects and advantages sought therefor.
It is to be understood that the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings have been given by way of illustration and example. It is also to be understood that changes in form of the elements, rearrangement of parts, and substitution of equivalent elements, which will be obvious to those skilled in the art, are contemplated as within the scope of the present invention which is limited 'only by the claims which follow.
What is claimed is:
1. A bowling glove comprising at least `a stall for the second finger, parallel ribs located only on the palm side of said second finger stall, said ribs `being adapted to effectively assist in obtaining improved ball action and control, said ribs being disposed at an angle of between -twenty and seventy degrees to the longitudinal aXis of said stall, said ribs being spaced close together in the `order of onesixteenth of an inch apart to permit simultaneous engagement of a plurality thereof with the interior of an aperture of a bowling ball, said ribs being low enough to avoid crowding of a finger wearing said second finger stall when inserted in an aperture of a bowling ball, said finger stall and ribs being of rubber material permitting the ribs to draghwithout hanging as the finger stall leaves a ball on delivery, and means for maintaining said glove on a hand.
2. The combination of claim 1 in which said glove also includes a stall for a third finger having ribs like those defined for said second finger stall.
