No.: 140,710 Primary Examiner-Lawrence Charles Attorney-Ernest G. Montague [30] Foreign Application Priority Data May 14, 1970 Italy 3449 A/70 ABSTRACT 1 A tooth brush which combines a container with a dis- U-S- Cl- B penser for the tooth paste The container has a partial [51 1 opening at the top and the tooth brush is supplied Fleld of Search paste is slotted into the aperture 2 Ciaims, 2 Drawing Figures TOOTH BRUSH COMPLETE WITH DISPENSER FOR THE TOOTH PASTE This invention refers to tooth brushes and, in particular, to a tooth brush provided with a dispenser for the tooth paste.
With tooth brushes currently in use, the tooth paste is squeezed out of a tube and spread over the bristles of the tooth brush. After use the tooth brush is put back into a separate container so as to keep it clean and free from contamination. To perform the said operations, quite a number of parts have to be handled, viz, the tooth brush itself, the tube of tooth paste and the container. Thus, apart from the physical effort, time is wasted both in washing the teeth'and in maintaining the tooth brush in good condition. Additionally, having so many parts, more room is taken up. The purpose of this invention is to enable the manufacture of a tooth brush combined with a container to also serve as a dispenser for spreading the tooth paste onto the tooth brush. The said tooth brush is able to lock onto the upper part of the said container and, in this locked position, to cause the paste to be spread over its bristles.
Another purpose is for the tooth paste, which is contained in a special dispenser, to be pushed into the tooth brush by means of externally operated controls and to go through perforations leading into the bristles of the tooth brush. Yet another purpose is for the container/dispenser to serve, in the open position, as the handle of the tooth brush, since the latter is jointed or hinged on to the container.
Other purposes and advantages can be seen from the following description and from the enclosed table which shows a schematic example of one way in which the invention can be used.
FIG. 1 on the a/m table provides a cutaway view of the device in the closed position.
FIG. 2 instead shows the device ready to be used. The container 1 which is shaped in such a way that it fits easily into the palm of the hand, has the tooth brush 2 hinged or jointed onto it 11 and when not in use, the brush is stored away inside the container, thereby serving as its cover.
The tooth paste dispenser 5 is filled through an aperture 4 which, once the filling operation has been completed, is sealed by means of a plug 3 or by some other suitable stopper. With the rotation in one direction of the external control 8 which is cast integral with the threaded spindle 6, the part 7 moves inside the dispenser and pushes the tooth paste along until some goes through the holes 10 and penetrates sufficiently in between the bristles of the tooth brush 2 which is thus now ready for use and is opened up as per FIG. 2.
Obviously when the tooth paste has been completely used up, a reverse rotation of 8 causes the pusher 7 to return to the position shown and this prepares the dispenser 5 ready for filling again.
The mechanism for moving the tooth paste can be made in various ways, suitable for the purpose, and
these may differ from the examples given.
The tooth brush and the container should both be made, out of preference, of a light resistant plastic material, such as synthetic resin, nylon or some other suitable material.
It is understood that the invention described herein schematically and purely as an example, also covers variants which, as such, can be taken as referring to one and the same device.
I claim:
1. A combination toothbrush and toothpaste dispenser, comprising a toothpaste dispenser,
a toothbrush pivotally connected to an end of said dispenser and pivotable to an extended position with a brush portion away from said dispenser, as well as to a closed position with said brush portion positioned abutting a dispensing portion of said dispenser,
said dispenser being hollow and having a substantially cylindrical hollow portion, and having at least one filling opening adapted for filling the paste therethrough into said dispenser,
1 a removable plug for closing said at least one filling opening,
said dispensing portion being formed with a plurality of projections which project into said brush portion when said toothbrush is in said closed position, and each of said projections having an orifice therethrough communicating with the hollow interior of said dispenser,
a threaded spindle extending axially through said cylindrical hollow portion and rotatably mounted at its both ends in said dispenser,
a disc threadably axially movable disposed on said spindle and having an outer periphery substantially equal to the inner periphery of said cylindrical hollow portion,
an external rotatable control knob means disposed at said end of said dispenser connected to said spindle for rotating said spindle, whereby toothpaste in said dispenser is pushed by said disc through said orifices said dispenser adjacent said dispensing portion is recess shaped, complementary to said toothbrush portion and that said toothbrush in said closed position substantially follows the outer contour of said dispenser, and
said dispensing portion is angularly inclined relative to the axis of said cylindrical hollow portion such that said dispenser narrows with a narrowing of its hollow interior toward the remote other end of said dispenser.
2. The combination toothbrush and toothpaste dispenser, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said orifices are formed with increasing diameters at closer positions approaching said remote other end of said dispenser.
Claims (2)
1. A combination toothbrush and toothpaste dispenser, comprising a toothpaste dispenser, a toothbrush pivotally connected to an end of said dispenser and pivotable to an extended position with a brush portion away from said dispenser, as well as to a closed position with said brush portion positioned abutting a dispensing portion of said dispenser, said dispenser being hollow and having a substantially cylindrical hollow portion, and having at least one filling opening adapted for filling the paste therethrough into said dispenser, a removable plug for closing said at least one filling opening, said dispensing portion being formed with a plurality of projections which project into said brush portion when said toothbrush is in said closed position, and each of said projections having an orifice therethrough communicating with the hollow interior of said dispenser, a threaded spindle extending axially through said cylindrical hollow portion and rotatably mounted at its both ends in said dispenser, a disc threadably axially movable disposed on said spindle and having an outer periphery substantially equal to the inner periphery of said cylindrical hollow portion, an external rotatable control knob means disposed at said end of said dispenser connected to said spindle for rotating said spindle, whereby toothpaste in said dispenser is pushed by said disc through said orifices said dispenser adjacent said dispensing portion is recess shaped, complementary to said toothbrush portion and that said toothbrush in said closed position substantially follows the outer contour of said dispenser, and said dispensing portion is angularly inclined relative to the axis of said cylindrical hollow portion such that said dispenser narrows with a narrowing of its hollow interior toward the remote other end of said dispenser.
2. The combination toothbrush and toothpaste dispenser, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said orifices are formed with increasing diameters at closer positions approaching said remote other end of said dispenser.
