To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LOTHAR W. FABER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Port Richmond, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented an Improved Holder for Pens, Pins, &c., of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a tubular ase having a side opening through which pins, pens or similar articles can be inserted into the case, in combination with an exterior tube into which the holder can be inserted and by which the lateral opening in the holder is closed so that the pins, pens or other articles Within the holder are not liable to fall out. This is especially adapted to use with a pencil protector to receive the end of a pencil.

In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of the improvedholder as open and containing pins. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 a cross section at the line 00 w of Fig. 1 with the holder closed, and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of a modification in the construction of the said holder. The holder is shown in enlarged size in all the figures.

The holder A is made of a tube of thin sheet metal with the bottom end 2 closed, and with an opening 3 in the side through which can be inserted the pins, pens or similar articles, and the upper end of the holder A is closed preferably by a block of rubberB; and the exterior tube 0 is adapted to receive the holder A into it, so that the opening 3 in the holderA is closed by the tube 0, and this tube 0 is advantageously made as a pencil holder, and with this object in View, the open end of the tube is slightly flaring at 4 and it is slotted longitudinally at 5 and provided with an inwardly bent rib 6 to limit the inward movement of the pencil as the point or pencil end is thrust into the tube (1.

In Figs. 1, 2 and 3, I have represented the holder A as held into the tube 0 by inwardly projecting ribs 7, so that the holder A will be rotated within the tube 0 but cannot be pulled out. In this instance the tube 0 requires an opening 8 corresponding with the opening 3 when the holderA has been turned for giving access to such holder through the opening 3, but in Fig. 4 the holder A is represented as having ascrew-shaped rib 9 interlocking with a similar rib at the end of the tube 0, so that after the holder A has been ir. serted into the tube 0, it is to receive a partial rotalim to interlock the screw ribs and retain the holder A within the tube 0; and it will be apparent that in this latter form of connection the holder A has to be unscrewed and partially drawn out to give access to the opening3 in such holder.

I claim as my invention 1. The holder A, made of a tube of thin sheet metal closed at one end and having an opening 3, at one side thereof, in combination with the exterior tube 0. into which the holder A. is inserted and which closes the opening 3. in the holder, and a block of rubber B, closing the end of the holder A, there being interlocking ribs in the sheet metal for retaining the holder within the exterior tube, substantially as set forth.

2. The holder A made of a tube of thin sheet metal closed at one end and having an opening at one side thereof, in combination with the exterior tube 0 into which the holder A is inserted and which closes the opening 3 in the holder, and a block of rubber B closing the end of the holder A, substantially as set forth.

3. The holderA of thin sheet metal closed at oneend and having an opening 3 in one side, in combination with the tube 0 having an opening at one side to correspond with the opening in the holder when the latteris partially rotated to give access to the contents of the holder, substautially'as set forth.

4. The holder A of thin material having a closed end and an openingat one side for the insertion or withdrawal of the contents, in combination with a block of rubber closing the other end of the holder, and the exterior tube 0 into which the holder is received, to close the side opening and which exterior tube forms also a pencil holder, substantially as set forth.
