To all wit/out it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOSEPH T. RowAND, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Camden, State of New Jer- 5 sey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mittens for Cleansing, Polishing, 85c. which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of a mitten for cleansing, brushing, polishing, &c., the same being adapted to be worn in reversed position, it having a plurality of thumbs or thumb-stalls for Referring to the drawings, A designates a mitten, the same having two thumbs B B,

The body of the mitten has its opposite sides formed of different material, one of "which is coarse and the other is fine or smooth, either side of which may occupy the palm; portion of the mitten when the latter is worn, it being seen that the mitten may then be conveniently rubbed over the article to be cleansed, polished, 850., using the coarse and fine sides alternately or either side, as desired, it being evident that as the mitten is reversed on the hand one of the thumbs is not occupied, and the same is then thrown over and folded the back of the hand out of the way and held thereat by the strap (J.

The brushes or scrapers may be brought into service to clean. or work out dirt, &c., in crevices or elsewhere, assist in general rubbing operations, and apply cleaning, polishing, or preserving material taken from the receptacle E.

The invention will be found admirably adapted for cleaning and polishing of shoes, to which, however, I do not limit myself.

In Fig. 3 the strap 0, employed for controlling the unused thumb, has the outer end attached to the tip of the mitten, and each thumb has an eye G for the connection of said strap therewith; but said strap may be fastened to any other properpart of the body of the glove or, as in Fig. 4, provided with clips to grasp the thumbs or one thumb and the body, as desired.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A mitten of the character stated having thumbs at opposite places thereof, and means connected with the unused thumb and another part of the mitten for holding said thumb folded on the exterior of the mitten.

2. A mitten having brushes on the tips thereof and projecting outwardly from the same, the inner ends of said brushes being fitted between the back and palm members of the mitten and secured thereto.

3. A mitten of the character stated, having a receptacle therein, brushes projecting from the body ,of the mitten and secured thereto, a discharge-nozzle connected with one of the members of said receptacle, and a closing cap for said nozzle.

4. A mitten having coarse and fine rubbing materials respectively on the palm and back thereof, a plurality of thumbs at opposite sides, and means connected with the thumb that is temporarily unused, and another part of the mitten for holding said thumb folded m on the exterior of the mitten.
