BELT.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Batent No. 743,984, dated November 10, 1903. Application filed $eptemher 4, 1903. Serial No. 171,960. (No model.)
T0 at whont it may concern.- I
Be it known that I, FRANK F. KNOTHE, of New York, inthe county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to'improvements in belts for personal wear, and has for its object to provide means for protecting the labels attached to such belts, whichindicate the size, makers name, trade-mark, dzc., which shall prevent the labels from being torn, detached, or mutilated in any way, while permitting the label to be easily read at all times.
To these ends the invention consists in certain novel details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, all as will be now described, and the particular features of novelty pointed out in the appended claims. 4
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view looking at the rear side of a belt embodying the present invention, part of the belt being broken away. vFig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Similar letters of reference in both figures indicate the same parts.
In the accompanying drawings, the letterA indicates a belt, a portion of which is broken away, which belt may be of leather or other suitable or usual material. Cl. he belt carries at one end a buckle B, of any preferred construction, secured in place by passing the end 0 around the rear bar I) of the buckle, doubling the same back on the belt proper, and securing it to the belt-body bymeans such as stitches at. These stitches a preferably-extend across the width of the belt, leaving the upper and lower edges of the end unattached, and the lines of stitching are located at such distances from each other that a space or pocket is formed between the belt and end to receive a label or card 1). This label or card D may bear any suitable inscription, but is designed to give the size of the belt, the makers name, and trade-mark, &c. To
enable the label D to be seen and easily read, an opening 0 is formed in the turned-back wearer or with other objects, as other belts when packed for shipment or storage, and consequently will not be injured by rubbing against the body of the wearer or by handling. The label will be kept clean and be at all times easily read, the portions of the end overlying the edges of the label keeping it in place. Ordinarily the label will fit tight enough between the belt and end to keep it in place; but, if desired, it may be pasted to the belt or turned-back end, or the stitches which secure the end to the belt may be caused to pass through the edges of the label or card, as shown in Fig. 2.
- Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A belt for personal wear embodying a buckle and strap having a portion of its lengthformed of two layers of material secured together, the inner layer of material having an opening therein and a label located between the two layers and exposed through the opening; substantially as described.
2. A belt for personal Wear embodying a buckle, a strap having its end passed through the buckle doubled back on itself and secured to the body of the buckle at two points, said end having an opening therein between the points of attachment and a label held between the body and end and exposed to view through the said opening; substantially as described.
3. The combination with a buckle, of a belt having its end turned back on itself through the buckle and secured to the body of the belt with the upper and lower edges of the turned-back end unattached, said end having an opening therein and a label held between the end and body of the buckle and exposed through the opening in the end; substantially as described.
FRANK F. KNOTHE.
