Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 20, 1908.
Application filed larch 28, 1907. Serial No. 365,064.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Box RALSTON RINGER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tooth-Brushes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accom anying drawing.
This invention re ates to tooth brushes,
and thus particularly a apted for travelers.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and'arrangement of arts to be hereinafter more fully describe and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing forming art of this specification, like numerals of reference designate corresponding the several views, in whic Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a tooth brush constructed in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a lan view of the same partly in longitudina section, showing the parts disconnected.
The improved device comprises a tubular handle 3, preferably ta ered as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and interna ly threaded at the smaller end and reduced in size at the lar or end with the reduced portion externa ly threaded as at 8, the reducing of the handle at the larger end producing a shoulder at the inner end of the externally threaded portion. The reduced externally threaded ortion is designed to receive a cap 6 internal y threaded as at 7 to on age the threads 8, the inner edge of the ca earin a ainst the shoulder at the reduce and of t e andle. The bristle receiving portion of the brush parts throughout is represented at 1 and is formed with its innor end internally threaded to correspond with the internally threaded smaller end of the handle, the internally threaded portions ada ted to receive a threaded plu 5, whereby the two parts 1 and 3 are fir y coupled, while at the same time they are readily detachable when required.
The plug 5 may be employed as a closure to the smaller end of the handle when the bristle portion 1 is detached. The tubular handle may-be utilized for holding the powder or paste which will remain therein when the bristle holding portion 1 is detached with the plug remain ng in the handle 3. An implement thus constructed is of great convenience and utility, especially for travelers, as it obviates the necessity of carrying a separate rece tacle for tooth owder or paste,
while at t e same time the rush can be disjointed to enable it to occupy less space in en th than an ordinary brus hroughout=my invention I construct'the parts thereof to snugly fit together and therey providing a smooth exterior surface similar to the ordinary tooth brush.
' My improved tooth brush can be constructed of any desired material, the bristle holder being preferably of ivory or composition, while the handle thereof is preferably of metal or acomposition.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
A tooth brush comprising a tubular handle internall threaded at one end and provided with a etachable cap at the other end, a bristle holding member internally threaded at the inner end, and a threaded plug engaging the internally threaded portion of the bristle holding member and the internally threaded ortion of the handle and forming a detacha 1e coupling means between the parts.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
