In the drawings,Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section through a shaving brush embodying one construction of my improvements; and Fig; 2 is a similar view illustrating a modified construction.

In Fig. 1 of the drawings, 2 represents the body of the shaving brush carrying the usual mass of bristles 3 and provided with a central tubular bushingia, one end of which opens into the interior of the bristles. The soap receptacleas illustrated in this ,figure consists of a rigid tube 10 containing. a piston 11 which is originally located behind the contents of the tube and is forced forward to expel'the same as fast as may be desired by means of a rod 12 extending lengthwise within the tube and passing through the rear or closed end of the latter, said rod being also passed throu h the piston 11 and provided with a screwhread to engage and operate said piston, and being also provided at its outer end with an operating hand or thumb piece 13. The piston 11 is prevented from rotating with the rod 12 by suitable means such as a longitudinallyextending rib 14' fitting a groove or depression in the periphery of the piston. This form of receptacle, which in itself is not original with me, is externally threaded at its outlet end or otherwise adapted to be detachabl connected to the tubular bushing 4 which is internally threaded at its rear end to receive the same, and said bushing also carries a hollow sheath or handle portion 15 which is adapted to receive the receptacle 1O andis given such a length that it will leave the outer end of the attached receptacle 10 exposed as well as the thumb piece 13, which parts may be inclosed if desired by means of a supplemental portion consisting of a cap 16 telescopically fitted to the outer end of the sheath 15.

In Fig. 2 there is shown a modification according to which the soap tube 10 and the body of the brush are of the same construction as that illustrated in Fig. 1, except that the operating thumb piece 13 has substantially the same diameter as'the outer tube or handle 15', which, in this instance, is of such length that it will extend to the rear or outer end of the tube 10 when the latter is connected to the brush. In this construction the thumb piece 13 not only serves to operate the piston 11 through the threaded rod 12 but also forms, in effect, a removable cover for the outer end of the handle 15 and thus assists in concealing the contained parts. The frictional resistance opposed by the piston 11 to its longitudinalmovement within the tube 10 will ordinarily be sufficient to permit said tube to be screwed into and out of the bushing f by means of the thumb piece which operates said piston, but any other suitable means for connecting said tube to the body of the brush may be employed instead of the screw-threaded connection shown, if preferred. A cap 16 such as is shown in Fig. 1 may be employed as well in connection with the construction shown in Fig. 2, if desired.

It will be seen that my invention provides a simple and inexpensive brush having a permanent handle whereby the brush may be used in the ordinary way, irrespective of any reservoir, while said handle is also adapted to receive and conceal a suitable reservoir as previously described, and while my improvements are particularly adapted to be applied to shaving brushes they may also be embodied in various other kinds of fountain brushes with similar resulting advantages, as will be evident.

I claim as my invention 1. In a fountain brush, the combination with the body portion and bristles of a rigid hollow handle carried by said body portion and a receptacle detachably secured within said handle and having an outlet adapted to deliver its contents to the bristles, said receptacle comprising a rigid tube having its rear or outer end closed and containing a piston located behind the contents thereof, a threaded piston-operating rod carried by said tube and passing through the outer end thereof, and an operating thumb piece connected to said rod on the exterior of the 5 tube and at the outer end of said handle.

In a fountain brush, the combination with the body portion and bristles of a rigid hollow handle carried by said body portion and a receptacle detachably secured within 0 said,handle and having an outlet adapted to deliver its contents to the bristles, said receptacle comprising a rigid tube having its rear or outer end closed and containing a piston located behind the contents thereof, a
