Referring to the figures and in particular to Figure 1, it can be seen that the mechanical toothbrush represented and generally identified by the reference 1 comprises a body 2 substantially cylindrical and, along the axis of the body 2, an arm longitudinal 3 whose end 3a is carried by the body 2 and whose other end 3b carries a head 4 having a hollow space open laterally 5 in which extend, parallel and longitudinally, two rotary brushes 6 and 7 substantially cylindrical and adjacent.
Le corps 2 présente en outre, à partir de sa paroi avant 9, un prolongement longitudinal 15 de section rectangulaire qui délimite un évidement longitudinal 16 traversé par le.s axes des arbres de sortie longitudinaux 13 et 14.Referring in particular to FIG. 2, it can be seen that the body 2 has a substantially cylindrical peripheral wall 8, a radial front wall 9 as well as a radial rear wall 10, and, between these walls, an internal annular shoulder 11. Between the rear wall 10 and the inner shoulder 11 is housed an electric motor 12 which has at its front part a mechanical transmission nique not visible in the figures which emerge, towards the front wall 9, two longitudinal output shafts 13 and 14. The mechanical transmission is adapted to rotate préférence-- les ^ e output shafts 13 and 14 reverse. The body 2 also has, from its front wall 9, a longitudinal extension 15 of rectangular section which delimits a longitudinal recess 16 crossed by the axes of the longitudinal output shafts 13 and 14.
En outre, le bras longitudinal 3 va en s 'évasant à son extrémité avant 3b.With particular reference to FIG. 3, it can be seen that the longitudinal arm 3 is, over a large part of its length, from its rear end 3a, of rectangular section such that its rear end 3a can be engaged just, longitu- ultimately, in the recess 16 of the body 2 to form a fitting. In addition, the longitudinal arm 3 is flared at its front end 3b.
With particular reference to FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 6, it can be seen that, with a view to locking the longitudinal arm 3 on the body 2, the end 3a of the arm 3 has, on each side, lateral recesses 17 in which extend rearward of the longitudinal fingers 18 which are laterally deformable and in the form of hooks, the hooks 19 of which extend laterally and are adapted to penetrate into internal recesses 20 formed in the opposite walls 15a of the extension 15 of the body 12. further sees that the walls 15a of the extension 15 of the body 2 have radial passages 21 in which extend, from the wall 9, laterally deformable fingers 22 which have at their front ends a projecting portion 23 extending outside and which are adapted to come into abutment with the end of the fingers 18 of the arm 2 when one presses towards their projecting part 19 so as to release the hooks 19 from the recesses 2 0. Thus, when the rear end part 3a of the arm 3 is engaged in the front recess 16 of the body 2, the hooks 18 engage in the recesses 20 with the extension 15, and the arm 3 and the body 2 are then locked. Conversely, when the protruding parts 23 of the longitudinal fingers 22 of the body 2 are pressed, the hooks 19 are released and the arm 3 and the body 2 can be separated by longitudinal displacement. Referring in particular to FIGS. 1, 3, 4 and 7, it can be seen that the head 4 has a longitudinal wall 24 of U-shaped section, the outer face of which is in the extension of the outer face of the arm 3, thus that a radial rear wall 25 and a front radial wall 26, which delimit the hollow space 5 open laterally and in the form of a trough, the internal face of the longitudinal wall 24 of the head 4 being formed so as to follow the shape cylindrical of the two adjacent brushes 6 and 7.
The head 4 has, from its rear radial wall 25, a protruding longitudinal extension 27 tapering towards its end and which is adapted to engage in a longitudinal recess 28 of the same shape provided at the end of the end 3b of the arm 3. In addition, the front face of the end 3b of the longitu¬ dinal arm 3 has, along its U-shape, a longitudinal edge 29 and the rear face of the rear wall 25 of the head 4 has, along its U-shape, a corresponding clearance. Thus, when the head 4 is mounted on the arm 3, the extension projection 27 is engaged and is held in the recess 28 of the arm 3, the flange 29 of the front side of b 'ras 3 is engaged in the déga- gement 30 of the rear wall 25 of the head 4 and the rear face of the wall 25 bears against the front face of the end 3a of the arm 3, this structure constituting a fitting.
We also see, especially in Figure 7, that for locking the head 4 on the arm 3 in the mounted position, the front end 3a of the longitudinal arm 3 carries a button 31 movable longitudinally to which is connected a flexible finger 32 which extends in a passage 33 open substantially radially in the recess 28 opposite which the projecting extension 27 of the head 4 also has a substantially radial passage 34. By displacement of the button 31, it is possible to engage the end of the flexible finger 32 in the passage 34 so as to lock the head 4 on the longitudinal arm 2. By moving the button 31 in the other direction, the flexible finger 32 is released and the head 4 can then be moved longitudinally and separated from the longitudinal arm 3. Referring to FIG. 5, it can be seen that the cylindrical brush 6 is carried by a stop 35 which has a cylindrical front end 36 and a rear end 37 "pointed and of square section. The brush 7 is carried by a shaft constructed of the same way.
The shaft 35 carrying the cylindrical brush 6 and the shaft carrying the brush 7 extend in longitudinal passages 38 and 39 of the longitudinal arm 3, through the hollow space 5 of the head 4 in which they carry the brushes 6 and 7. Their front ends are respectively engaged in cylindrical recesses 40 and 41 formed in the rear face of the front wall - 26 of the head 2 and formed opposite the output shafts 13 and 14. Their parts located on the other side of the brushes 6 and 7 are engaged in notches 42 and 43 provided on their flat part of the radial wall. rear 25 of the head and open on the same side as the hollow space 5, in which the shafts are in radial abutment, the rear radial wall 25 extending to the level of the axis of the shafts 35.
Referring to Figures 2 and 8, it is seen that the shaft "output 13 carries a sleeve 44 sliding longitudinally and rotationally fixed by the fact that the output shaft 13 is of square section and the inside passage 45 of the sleeve 44 is of the same section The front end part of sleeve 44 is also engaged in a longitudinal passage 46 of the radial wall 9 of support 2 which has an internal shoulder 47 against which its front face can come into abutment.
The shaft 13 has a rear shoulder 48 and a spring 49 is disposed between the front face of this shoulder 48 and the rear face of the sleeve 44, around the shaft 13, so as to act on the sleeve 44 in the direction of the shoulder 47.
L'arbre portant le balai 7 est monté de la même manière que l'arbre 35 à l'extrémité de l'arbre de sortie 14.The internal passage 45 of the sleeve 44 has, in its front part 45a, a shape which corresponds to the shape of the rear end 37 of the shaft 35 so as to make it integral in rotation. When the shaft 35 is mounted, the sleeve 44 is slightly moved backwards and the spring 49 therefore acts in the direction of the front end 36 of the shaft 35 to maintain it in its longitudinal direction. The shaft carrying the brush 7 is mounted in the same way as the shaft 35 at the end of the output shaft 14.
It is apparent from the Description- which p 'recede that while retaining the same carrier 2 carrying the drive means, can be easily interchanging the assembly formed by the arm longitu¬ dinal 3, the head 4 and the two rotary brushes 6 and 7 carried by their respective longitudinal shafts.
In addition, if it is desired in this assembly to inter¬ change the rotary brushes 6 and 7, for example if they are worn, it suffices to act on the button 31 so as to release the flexible finger 32 from the passage 34 of the protruding extension 27 of the head 4, to pull the head longitudinally so as to separate it from the longitudinal arm 3. Thus, the front ends of the shafts carrying the brushes 6 and 7 can be released longitudinally from the recesses forming support 40 and 41 of the front radial wall 26 of the head 4, the shafts can be released laterally from the notches 42 and 43 of the rear radial wall 25 of the head 4 and, by longitudinally pulling the longitudinal shafts carrying the brushes 6_ and 7, they can be completely extracted longitudinal passages 38 and 39 provided in the longitudinal arm 3. To reassemble, for example, new brushes, the above operations can be carried out in reverse.
Referring to Figures 9 to 11, we will now describe the front part of another mechanical toothbrush generally identified by the reference 50 which includes a longitudinal arm 51 whose rear end is connected, for example as before, to a body not shown in these figures and a head 52 which delimits a hollow space 53 open laterally and in the shape of a trough, and in which two rotary brushes 54 and 55 extend longitudinally, as before.
In this example, the brushes 54 and 55 are carried by ends of shafts 56 and 57 whose front ends are engaged, as before, in recesses in the front radial wall 58 of the head 52. The rear parts of the shafts 56 and 57 extend into notches 59 and 60 which are formed, as before, in the planar upper face 61 of the wall rear radial 62 of the head 52 and further extend slightly in longitudinal passages 63 and 64 of the longitudinal arm 51.
Les encoches 59 et 60 présentent des lèvres ou rebords élastiques longitudinaux 59a, 59b et 60a, 60b qui permettent aux arbres 59 et 60 d'être encli- quetés transversalement dans les encoches 59 et 60.Intermediate shafts 65, one of which is visible in FIG. 9 are coupled longitudinally to the rear ends of the shafts 56 and 57, by longitudinal mortise-tenon 65a, these intermediate shafts extending longitudinally through the arm 51 and their rear ends being connected to a motor by means of elastic means, formed for example like those of the previous example visible in FIG. 8. The upper surface 61 of the rear wall 62 of the head 52 is situated slightly above the passing plane by the geometric axis of the shafts 56 and 57. The notches 59 and 60 have longitudinal elastic lips or edges 59a, 59b and 60a, 60b which allow the shafts 59 and 60 to be snapped transversely into the notches 59 and 60.
The front end of the longitudinal arm 51 has a protruding longitudinal part 66 which extends above the rear radial wall 62 of the head 52 to its inner radial flank and which is in contact with its upper surface 61, this projecting part 66 covering the notches 59 and 60 and constituting a radial support for the shafts 59 and 60.
As in the previous example, the rear radial wall 62 of the head 52 carries a longitudinal part 67 projecting towards the rear which is engaged in a longitudinal recess 68 of the arm 51 so as to constitute a fitting, this fitting being able to be locked by the means of the previous example shown in Figure 7 or by any other means.
Ce faisant, les arbres 59 et 60 se désaccouplent longitudinalement des arbres intermédiaires 65 et la partie en saillie 67 de la tête 52 se dégage de l'évidement 68 du bras longitudinal 51.In the example described, with reference to FIGS. 9 to 11, the head 52 and the brushes 53 and 54 can be separated from the arm 51 simply by pulling the head 52 longitudinally and towards the front. In doing so, the shafts 59 and 60 are longitudinally uncoupled from the intermediate shafts 65 and the projecting part 67 of the head 52 emerges from the recess 68 of the longitudinal arm 51.
This operation being carried out, the brushes 54 and 55 remain associated with the head 52 because the shafts 59 and 60 are held at the front- in the recesses of the front wall 58 of the head 52 and at the rear in the notches 59 and 60 of its rear wall 62 thanks to their longitudinal edges 59a, 59b and 60a, 60b. To extract the brushes 54 and 55 from the head 52, it suffices to release the rear parts of the shafts 56 and 57 laterally from the notches 59 and 60 and to release their front ends longitudinally from the recesses provided in the front radial wall 58 of the head 52.
To reassemble for example new brushes in the head 52, the reverse operation is carried out. To reassemble the head 52 on the front end of the longitudinal arm 51, the reverse operation to that described above is carried out, by engaging the projecting part 67 of the head 52 in the recess 68 of the arm 51, making slide the rear radial wall 62 of the head 52 under the front projecting part 66 of the arm 65 and by engaging the rear ends of the shafts 56 and 57 in the longitudinal passages 63 and 64 of the arm 51 in which they come to mate to the intermediate shafts 65 by moving the latter against the elastic means acting on their rear ends.
