Abstract
In a brush, particularly a toothbrush with a handle acting as container and piston actioned dispenser with screw feed along a threaded shank (36), a surface with a double cam (30, 30', 33, 33') is foreseen to guarantee a regular feed length with a sudden return. An extending panel (70) stretches between the piston and a fixed part of the barrel, so that writing or drawings can be applied to it.
Description
Container, especially toothbrush-container, with metered piston discharge
The present invention refers to the field of containers for fluid, viscous products, particularly products in paste form, such as toothpastes, creams and the like; more particularly it concerns the field of container toothbrushes.
5. A previous Italian application No. 19740 A/90 foresees a container or toothbrush container which co prises a barreI part and a dispenser part: the barrel part comprises a threaded shank, which controls the forward movement of a piston, and whose rotation is controlled, in its turn, by a knob; the latter has a cam surface corresponding to a 10. sleeve integral with the shank, in such a way that the movement of the piston is made up of a forward movement determined by the thread of the shank and a forward movement and a subsequent backward movement, determined by the co11aboration of the cam surfaces.
The aim of the present application is to improve further the 15- container-dispenser; in particular, to make it work more smoothly and, to make it easier and less expensive to produce; an additional aim is to enable writing or drawings for advertizing purposes to be applied to it.
The above aims have been achieved with a container-dispenser, in 20. particular a toothbrush, according to the claims. In particular, the container-dispenser comprises a double-cam surface, the two cams having a same inclination and being concentric and offset at l8θ°. In addition, it comprises a panel or preferably a bellows element carrying writing or a drawing, extending between the dispenser piston 25. and the base of the barreI and usuaI Iy spring driven against the piston, in such a way that it extends progressively with the forward
movement of the piston. According to further characte istics, the toothbrush-container has an angled head with a central opening in direct communication with the dispenser duct, without a closing valve.
The containei—dispenser works smoothly without Jamming, and it can be 5. produced easily at a low cost. Furthermore, it can carry writing or drawings which become visible gradually, something which could arouse curiosity in children, for example, and might encourage them to use the toothbrush-contaϊner.
An exemplary embodiment of the present invention will be described 10. below with reference to the appended drawings, in which the invention is illustrated, and in which:
figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of the container-dispenser; igure la is a view from below of a part of the container;
"Figure 2 is an axial section of the device in its assent)led
15. condition, with the piston in the retracted position;
"figure 3 is an enlarged illustration of a detail in "figure 2; figure 4 is an axial section taken along the container-dispenser, with the piston in the position of maximum extension;
■figure 5 is a view from the left with respect to figure L .
20. In the drawings, reference number 10 shows a toothbrush with a container handle, which, as example, realizes the container-dispenser which is the object of the present invention. It comprises a body 12, forming an inner chamber 13; on a lower thread on the body a base element 14 is screwed, which has an upper threaded skirt 15, a lower
25. skirt 16 forming an inner cylindrical seat 18, and a transverse part 20 with a through opening 22 with a shape which is other than circular. Between the s irts 15 and 16 on the outer surface a circumferential groove 24 is formed.
A control knob 26 is coupled in a revolving way to the base 14 by means of a circumferential tooth 28 inserted into the groove 24. The knob 16 has a double cam surface 30, 30' on the wall of the base 31 and a central hole 32, for example square-shaped. The cam surfaces 30, 5- 30' are rotating surfaces substantially in the form of concentric circumferentiaI incI ines, incI ined at equaI incI ination but offset at l8θ°; each one has a step 33, 33' in a radial position, extending along the whole height of the incl ines in an axial direction; the two incl ines are at an angle of l8θ° to one another.
10. A feed eIement 35 comprises a threaded shank 36 and a tang 38. The section of the latter has a shape suitable for coupling in an integral way to the rotation, with the hole 32 of the knob 26 being, for example, in the form of a square. To the thread of the shank 36 is coupled the inner thread of a piston member 40, possibly provided with
15- jointings 41 to seal it against the inner wall of the body 12, and preferably provided with means (not illust ated) for preventing its rotation with respect of the body.
A cam member 46 is locked longitudinal ly on the shank 36, between a shoulder 43 and a stop ring 44.
20. The cam member 46 is abIe to sI ide axiaI Iy with respect to the member 14 but is fixed to the rotation of the same, through a parallel-walled shape of a part 47 of the member 14 which couples with the anti-rotation opening 22 in the same. A pressure spring 50 is interposed between a shoulder 48 of the element 46 and an opposite 25- shoulder 19 of the wall 20 of the element 14- The lower face of the member 46 has a doubIe circumferentia1 inc1 ine cam surface. The two inclines 52, 52' are circumferential, concentric and uniformly inclined, with axial steps 53/ 53'/ offset at 180°, and they are intended to collaborate with the surfaces 30, 30' mentioned above.
A dispenser member 60, integral with a bristle-holder head 62 is appl ied by screwing down or in any other known way whatsoever, at the other end 56, to the threaded neck of the body 12. The member 60 has a through channel 64 which opens to the outside by means of the opening
5- 63 of the head. The head is straight or at an angle with respect to the axis of the body; with the bristles turned outwards, this inclination results in more efficient dispensing. It should be noted that more than one head can be used on the body, so that when a head is worn out or is no longer suitable, it can be replaced by another
10. head on the same body.
Preferably but not necessarily, between the piston 40 and the wall 20 of the member 14Λ a beI lows member 70 is positioned, or a flexible or extending paneI in generaI , which, when the piston is in the retracted position (figure 2) is positioned folded up in the small space between 15. the piston and the member 14, and extends with the piston as the iston gradually rises along the screw 36.
The extension of the flexible member 70 can be determined by fastening the ends thereof to the member 14 and to the piston 40, or else by locating a spring 72 inside the member 70.
20. When the body 12 is reaI ized in transparent materiaI , as the member 70 gradually extends, any writing or drawings which may be applied to it gradually become visible from the outside.
A beI I-shaped protection cap 80 can be appI ϊed to the body for protecting the head.
25. A description follows of the way in which the device works.
With the piston 40 lowered and the chamber 13 full of paste, the knob
26 is made to rotate in the direction of the arrow F in figure 2. Such rotation determines the rotation of the threaded shank 36 and the corresponding forward movement of the piston 40 towards the top of the figures, by means of the reciprocal engagement of the hole 32 with the 5. tang 38. At the same time, the cam surfaces 30, 30', as they move along the cam surfaces 52, 52', move the latter and the whole unit, composed of the members 35/ 40, 46, in an upward direction axial ly for a further length. The piston 40 then moves forward for a length because of the rotation of the thread, and for another length because 10. of the cams.
When, during rotation, the step 33 meets the step 53/ the release of the spring 50 brings back the element 46 (and therefore the shank 35 and the piston 40) towards the knob 26, for a length permitted by the height of the steps, in such a way that the forward movement of the 15- piston is reduced just to the forward movement due to the action of the thread. The return release shuts off the dispensing of the paste and is clearly felt by the user, who realizes that it has dispensed a dose of paste.
Evidently, variations or modifications can be effected to what has 20. been described above, it is understood that all variations and modifications within the reach of a technician in the art faI I within the field of the present invention.
