Abstract

Package comprising a small case (2); one or more arms (6, 7, 8) pivotally mounted to the case via pins (4, 5); and one or more sachets (30, 31) of flexible material mounted to each arm. The arms can be pivoted between a closed or stored position in which the sachet is enclosed within the case, and an open position in which the sachet is accessible so to enable the sachet to be opened along a line of weakness. The sachet is provided with pairs of holes that engage with projections or hooks (29) on an arm. The sachet is used to carry body care products such as wipes, deodorant, toothpaste, floss, remover, gel, cream, sun block, shampoo and powder. Also, an arm (9) can be a replaceable toothbrush head with bristles (12), or an arm can carry a mirror. The package is of a neat and compact form.

Description

CASE HAVING PTVOTABLE ARMS WITH MOUNTED SACHETS OR DEVICES
The present invention relates to a package, typically including a sachet of flexible material, containing a product such as a body care product.
A need exists for a packaging arrangement including sachets of product, such as body care product, which can be conveniently stored in a pocket of a garment, or in a handbag, without risking unintentional opening of the sachet. It is also desirable for the package to have a neat and compact form.
A first aspect of the invention provides a package comprising a case; an arm pivotally mounted to the case; and one or more sachets of flexible material mounted to the arm, wherein the arm can be pivoted between a closed position in which the sachet is enclosed within the case, and an open position in which the sachet is accessible so as to enable the sachet to be opened.
The sachet is typically opened by rupturing the sachet, preferably along a performed line of weakness (for example formed by a line of perforations).
Typically a spring mechanism is provided so as to bias the arm towards its open position, and a releasable catch retains the arm in its closed position.
The sachet may be mounted to the arm in a variety of ways.
Preferably the arm has one or more hooks (or other projections) which pass through one or more respective holes in the sachet. This enables the sachet to be easily replaced with another sachet after the contents of the sachet have been removed. Typically the package further comprises one or more additional arms pivotally mounted to the case, each arm carrying one or more sachets of flexible material.
In one embodiment the case has attachment means which enables the case to be removably attached to the case of another package according to the first aspect of the invention. For instance the case may have one or more studs which are received as a push-fit or click-fit in holes formed in the other case.
A second aspect of the invention provides a package comprising two or more sachets of flexible material, wherein each sachet is connected to an adjacent sachet along a first portion of an edge of the sachet to enable the sachets to be folded along their connecting edges so as to lie face to face, and wherein each sachet is unconnected to the adjacent sachet along a second portion of the edge of the sachet so as to enable each sachet to be gripped to open the sachet.
A third aspect of the invention provides a package comprising two or more sachets of flexible material, wherein the sachets are connected to each other at one corner only.
Typically the sachets are glued together.
Preferably a hole is hole formed through the sachets at the connected corner to enable a tag or other connector to be passed through the hole.
Typically the or each sachet contains a bodycare product.
A fourth aspect of the invention provides a package comprising a case having a device compartment; an arm pivotally mounted to the case; a first bodycare device removably attached to the arm; and a second bodycare device housed in the compartment, wherein the first bodycare device can be removed from the arm to enable the second bodycare device to be removed from the compartment and attached to the arm.
Typically the first and/or second bodycare device comprises a toothbrush head.
Typically the first and/or second bodycare device comprises a razor blade cartridge.
A number of embodiments of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is plan view of a body care product package.

Referring to Figures 1 -4, a package 1 comprises a case (similar to a conventional pen-knife case) having side walls 2, 3, a first pivot pin 4 and a second pivot pin 5 mounted between the side walls 2,3. A pair of rigid arms 6, 7 are pivotally attached to the pivot pin 4 and a pair of rigid arms 8, 9 are attached to the pivot pin 5.
The arms 6-9 are retained in their closed position shown in Figures 1 -3 by a catch (not shown) which can be released by pressing a button 10 or 1 1 . On release of the catch, a spring mechanism (also not shown) forces the arms to pivot towards an open position as shown in Figure 4. In Figure 4 the arm 6 is in its fully open position and the arms 7,8 are partially open only.
The arm 9 is a replaceable toothbrush head with bristles 1 2. The arm 9 is detachable and can be replaced. The other arms 6, 7, 8 each carry three folded sachets containing body care product as shown in more detail in Figures 6-9. The sachets carried on arms 6, 7 and 8 may be three different colours (e.g. red on arm 6, green on arm 7 and blue arm 8).
A strip of three sachets shown in Figure 6. The strip is formed by providing two opposing sheets 20, 21 (shown in Figure 8) of flexible sheet material and heat sealing the sheets 20, 21 at an upper seal region 22 and a lower seal region 23. Prior to sealing, the sachet is filled with a body care product 24. Slots 25, 26 are formed between adjacent sachets and the sides of each sachet are heat sealed to form a fully enclosed chamber. Perforations 27 are formed along the lower edge of the sachets to enable the sachet to be opened by ripping along the perforation line. A pair of holes are punched through the top of each sachet. One of the holes is indicated at 28 in Figure 6 for illustrative purposes.
The three sachets are folded as indicated in Figure 7 and then attached to the arms of the package of Figure 1 by passing a pair of hooks carried by the arms 6-8 through the holes 28 as illustrated in Figure 9. One hook 29 carried by arm 6 is shown in Figure 9.
As shown in Figure 5, a second case 13 can be releasably attached to the first case by a suitable releasable attachment mechanism (not shown).
The main case 1 is of keyring or neckchain size. The arms 6-8 may carry a mirror instead of a set of sachets.

An alternative packaging system is shown in Figures 10 and 1 1 . A pair of sachets 30, 31 each have holes 32 punched in their corner and are glued together in a glue region (bounded by dotted line 33) surrounding the holes 32. A tag 34 passes through the holes 34 to enable the sachets to be attached to a keyring or other item. The sachets 30, 31 may be different colours.
The sachet 30 is shown in cross-section in Figure 1 1 . A pair of sheets 35, 36 are heat sealed together at their sides, top and bottom edges and also at an intermediate region 37 to form two separate compartments. Prior to heat sealing, the upper compartment is filled with toothpaste 38 and the lower compartment filled with dental floss 39. Perforation lines 40,41 are formed in the region 37 to enable the sachet to be broken to release its contents. An alternative package is shown in Figure 1 2. The package of Figure 1 2 is similar to the package of Figure 1 , and only the differences will be described below.
A lengthened pivoting arm 50 carries a detachable toothbrush head 51 . The lower part of the casing has a razor drawer 52 pivotally attached thereto. The drawer 52 is attached to the casing by a spring loaded pivot 54 which biases the drawer into the closed position shown in Figure 1 2. The drawer 52 has a base 59 and four side walls 55-58 shown in the plan view of Figure 1 4. Side wall 56 has an indent 53 which can receive a tip of a user's finger to force the drawer to pivot open to the open position shown in Figure 1 3 in which a disposable razor cartridge 60 can be accessed. Cartridge 60 is removed from the drawer 52 and can then be attached to the arm 50 as shown in Figure 1 5. The cartridge 60 has a pair of resilient arms 61 , 62 which can be forced apart and then closed around the arm 50 to secure the cartridge 60 to the arm 50. The cartridge 60 has two safety razor blades 63, 64.

Claims

1 . A package comprising a case; an arm pivotally mounted to the case; and one or more sachets of flexible material mounted to the arm, wherein the arm can be pivoted between a closed position in which the sachet is enclosed within the case, and an open position in which the sachet is accessible so as to enable the sachet to be opened.
2. A package according to claim 1 wherein the or each sachet has a pair of holes formed therein, and the arm comprises a pair of projections which each pass through a respective hole in the sachet so as to mount the sachet to the arm.
3. A package comprising two or more sachets of flexible material, wherein each sachet is connected to an adjacent sachet along a first portion of an edge of the sachet to enable the sachets to be folded along their connecting edges so as to lie face to face, and wherein each sachet is unconnected to the adjacent sachet along a second portion of the edge of the sachet so as to enable each sachet to be gripped to open the sachet.
4. A package according to claim 1 or 2 having a package according to claim 3 mounted to the arm.
5. A package comprising two or more sachets of flexible material, wherein the sachets are connected to each other at one corner only.
6. A package according to claim 5 wherein the sachets are glued together.
7. A package according to claim 5 or 6 wherein each sachet is formed with a hole at the connected corner.
8. A package according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the or each sachet contains a bodycare product.
9. A package comprising a case having a device compartment; an arm pivotally mounted to the case; a first bodycare device removably attached to the arm; and a second bodycare device housed in the compartment, wherein the first bodycare device can be removed from the arm to enable the second bodycare device to be removed from the compartment and attached to the arm.
10. A package according to claim 9 wherein the first and/or second bodycare device comprises a toothbrush head.
1 1 . A package according to claim 9 or 10 wherein the first and/or second bodycare device comprises a razor blade cartridge.
1 2. A package according to claim 9, 1 0 or 1 1 wherein the compartment comprises a pivoting drawer having a base and four side walls.
