Description

COSMETIC CLEANSER CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
This document is an International Patent Application which is related to, and claims the priority through earlier filed U.S. Provisional Application Serial No. 61,009,492, filed December 27, 2007, all the subject matter of which is herein incorporated by this reference thereto in its entirety for all purposes.
TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to cosmetic compositions, and particularly to a cleanser composition ideal for sensitive skin.
BACKGROUND ART
A growing area of interest in the improvement of skin care is the formulation of more gentle skin care products, which are particularly suitable for the treatment of sensitive skin, especially on the face. However, as skin care needs vary from person to person, no single product suits every individual. Thus, there is always a need for improved products, especially compositions which are gentle and suitable for most skin types.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
The present invention provides a cleanser which includes cotton seed extract, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, allantoin, tocopheryl acetate, and polyquaternium-10. The cleanser is gentle and is ideal for use on the face and any sensitive part of the body.
MODE(S) FOR CARRYING-OUT THE INVENTION
The detailed description set forth below is intended as a description of an exemplary embodiment and is not intended to represent the only forms in which the exemplary embodiment may be constructed and/or utilized. The description sets forth the functions and the sequence of steps for constructing and/or operating the exemplary embodiment. However, it is to be understood that the same or equivalent functions and sequences may be accomplished by different exemplary methods are also intended to be encompassed within the spirit and scope of the invention. As used herein, "safe and effective amount" means a sufficient amount of a compound, composition or other material described by this phrase to significantly induce a positive modification in the condition being treated, but low enough to avoid undue side effects (e.g., significant skin irritation or sensitization), within the scope of sound judgment of the skilled person. The safe and effective amount of the compound, composition or other material may vary with the particular skin being treated, the age and physical condition of the biological subject being treated, the severity of the condition, the duration of treatment, the nature of concurrent therapy, the specific compound, composition, or other material employed, the particular cosmetically acceptable topical carrier utilized, and the factors within the knowledge and expertise of the skilled person.
Cotton seed extract (gossypium harbaceum seed extract) is used as a moisturizing and soothing agent. Cotton seeds are rich in proteins, sugar components and vitamin B. The preferred cotton seed extract used in the present invention is sold under the trade name PHYTES SENCE™ COTTON from Croda, and is a glycolic/aqueous extract of cotton seeds. The composition of the present invention uses Phytessence™ Cotton at a concentration of approximately between 0.01 and 1.0%, and more preferably at approximately 0.10%.
Carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil is used as an emollient and skin conditioning agent. The composition of the present invention preferably includes safflower seed oil at a concentration of approximately between 0.05 and 2%, and more preferably at approximately 0.5%.
Allantoin is used in the formulation of the present invention as an anti-irritant and skin protecting agent. The composition of the present invention preferably includes allantoin at a concentration of approximately between 0.01 and 2%, and more preferably at approximately 0.1%.
Vitamin E acetate is used as an antioxidant. The formulation of the present invention preferably includes Vitamin E at a concentration of approximately between 0.001 and 2%, and more preferably at approximately 0.05%.
The formulation of the present invention includes polyquaternium-10 as a conditioner. The formulation of the present invention preferably includes polyquaternium-10 at a concentration of approximately between 0.01 and 5%, and more preferably at approximately 0.1%.
The following is an example for the preparation of a cleanser composition, in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
Figure imgf000004_0001
Figure imgf000005_0001
The formulation is prepared according to the following procedure:
In the main kettle, combine ingredients #1-10 through 1-08 with medium speed propeller mixing. Mix until uniform. Heat Sequence #1 to approximately 800C. Combine ingredients #2-01 through 2-06 and heat to 80°C. Mix until clear and uniform. Add Sequence #2 to Sequence #1 with medium speed propeller mixing. Add Ingredient 30-1 to batch with medium speed propeller mixing. Increase mixing speed as batch begins to thicken. Add Ingredient 4-01 to batch and mix until uniform, careful not to incorporate air in the batch. Begin cooling. At 42°C, add Ingredient 5- 01 to batch and mix until uniform. At 35-400C, add Ingredient 06-01 to batch and mix until uniform. Continue cooling. Cool to 25-30°C.
In closing, it is to be understood that the exemplary embodiment described herein are illustrative of the principles of the present invention. Other modifications that may be employed are within the scope of the invention. Thus, by way of example, but not of limitation, alternative configurations may be utilized in accordance with the teachings herein. Accordingly, the description is illustrative and not meant to be a limitation thereof.
