Le Corbusier - Voisin Project

To wrap up my tribute to Le Corbusier, I have to mention the one project he planned for Paris which didn't get to fruition. Luckily for us!

In the 1920's, the young architect had imagined the plan for a modern city. According to him, Paris' architecture would soon face issues with the demographic expansion, and this had to be adressed with a radical solution.

His idea was to demolish a huge section of the right bank to make way for skyscrapers shaped like crosses and perfectly geometrically alined. Parts of the new city could house three million residents and another part would be reserved for business offices.

Over the years, Le Corbusier drafted several versions of the "Voisin Project" which was named after Gabriel Voisin, a wealthy investor and friend of the architect who supported the idea.

Would you agree it would have transformed Paris into a very sterile looking town? The architect thought that modern Paris would set the tone for 🇪🇺Europe and they would follow the movement. Luckily that plan was never approved...
