German soccer player Fritz Walter wears a track suit and holds a soccer ball in his hands in 1954. The famous sports idol played for the 1st FC Kaiserslautern soccer club from 1928 until 1959, winning the German league title in 1951 and 1953. He celebrated his biggest success as captain of the German national team winning the World Cup in Berne, Switzerland, 1954. Walter was born on 31 October 1920 in Kaiserslautern and has been honorary captain of the German national team since 1958.
